In Spring 2000 I received a package containing the film Who Killed Vincent Chin? Also enclosed was a note from Renee Tajima, who heard about a hate crime on our campus. An Asian American freshman was standing outside his dorm when fellow white students passed by. According to witnesses, they yelled racial epithets, beat him, and cracked his skull.
