  • The pressure record underfoot

Open Access•Michael Everett, Sarah Maryon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•References: 14

Ground penetrating radar can image buried footprints in soft sediment. • Results show primarily a record of undertrack pressure rather than morphology. • Detailed study of ichnofossils using radar requires relatively high frequencies. Fossilised trackways are a key source of evidence for reconstructing how ancient humans and animals moved across the landscape. The morphology of tracks is of particular importance because it allows inferences to be…

  • Might a Sense of Place Approach Help the Public Connect to Brayford Pool's Medieval Heritage

    Open Access•Abigail Hunt•ARTICLE•Open Library of Humanities•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 14

It is challenging for people to perceive a particular aspect of an area's rich history when it is not obvious, prominent, or interpreted (Hunt, 2021). This article draws on and develops this assertion by establishing the importance of the Brayford Pool in the Medieval Period (1066-1540) and explores the challenges people face when perceiving the influence of this time period within the current landscape. The article uses the perception aspect of …

  • Extending social protection to migrant workers in the region of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC)

    Open Access•Christina Lowe, Jessica Hagen‐zanker et al.•ARTICLE•International Social Security…•2023•Cited by: 3•References: 3

This article explores factors influencing the extension of social protection to migrant workers in the region of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC). While there are some indications of new momentum for reforms, we find that reforms to address gaps in legal social protection coverage have historically been hindered by the very design of the migration system, including the assumed short‐term migration time frame and over …

  • Domestic Work and the Gig Economy in South Africa

    Open Access•Abigail Hunt, Emma Samman•ARTICLE•Anti-Trafficking Review•2020•Cited by: 9•References: 3

Based on innovative, mixed-methods research, this article examines the entry of on-demand platform models into the domestic work sector in South Africa. This sector has long been characterised by high levels of informality, precarity, and exploitation, though recent regulatory advances have provided labour and social protections to some domestic workers. We locate the rise of the on-demand economy within the longer-term trajectory of domestic wor…

  • My father wasn't really interested in machinery”

    Abigail Hunt•ARTICLE•International Journal of Regional…•2016

This article explores the emergence of modern agriculture in twentieth century Lincolnshire as represented by the shift from threshing drums to combine harvesters and from real horse power to motor horse power. It attempts to historically resituate the emergence of modern agriculture in the county, demonstrating that change did not uniformly take place across the county just before, during, or immediately after World War Two. It also offers a new…

  • Bridging inequalities through inclusion

    Abigail Hunt, Hannah Bond et al.•ARTICLE•Gender & Development•2015•References: 4

This article focuses on women's rights organisations and their role in challenging inequality within the development process. Women in poverty are excluded as a result of their unequal societal position, geographic location, and the predominance of ‘top-down’ and piecemeal policymaking processes carried out by donor governments. We argue that in-country women's rights organisations provide the ‘missing link’ to bridge the disconnect between grass…

  • If Not Now, When? Reasserting Beijing for a Progressive Women's Rights Agenda in 2015 and Beyond

    Open Access•Abigail Hunt•ARTICLE•IDS Bulletin•2015•References: 5

Women's rights organisations have been central to progress on women's rights and gender equality since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA). Drawing on interviews and a survey carried out in January 2015 with 13 Womankind Worldwide's partner organisations, the myriad ways in which women's movement actors draw strategically on the BPfA as appropriate to their context are explored, along with universally-shared imp…

  • From Rhetoric to Reality

    Open Access•Abigail Hunt, Rosario Undurraga•ARTICLE•Studies in Ethnicity and…•2009•References: 7

This paper provides an overview of the current situation of Kosovo using a gendered perspective to highlight the challenges posed to the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Achievement of Gender Equality in Kosovo (NAP). The NAP arose through collaboration between the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and the Kosovan women's movement and as such reflects both local and international gender knowledge and expertise. …
