Producing deceit
This experimental study explored how adopting a deceptive stance affects linguistic processes during real-time production of multi-sentence texts in speaking and writing. Language production involves planning, monitoring and editing – processes that give rise to and are shaped by fluctuations in processing demands. Deception is assumed to influence these processes as speakers and writers manage competing communicative goals: to be coherent while …
An exploratory study of teachers’ supportive communication during interactive book reading in the classroom
This study examines teachers’ use of evidence-based language learning techniques in the classroom and possible impact on student engagement. Video recordings of nine primary school teachers conducting interactive book reading with their students were analyzed both according to the Communication Supporting Classroom Observation Tool-Language Learning Interactions (CSCOT-LLI) and descriptively. Quantitative results were mostly in line with prior…
Lies in the lexicon
Corpus linguistic studies have shown that lexicon varies according to linguistic register, and cognitive studies have demonstrated that lexical aspects play a significant role in determining the veracity of people’s accounts. Both lines of research underpin the present study, where the aim is to explore how overall lexical properties (lexical density and lexical diversity, and noun, verb, and adjective density) are related to the veracity of narr…
Putting Out Fires With Institutional Reforms
This article examines the fire and rescue services sector in Sweden in the period 1986–2021, and explains the timing of bureaucratic reforms using the Multiple Streams Framework (MSF). In this study, we insert institutions in MSF by employing a two‐level analysis; we highlight the interactions among experts acting as policy entrepreneurs over time and during a large window of opportunity, and we show that in a programmatically complex policy duri…
The assembling process of outsider volunteers during disasters
In a disaster context, researchers have observed volunteerism since the 1950s, and since then the field has been under continuous development. However, despite the long tradition and the number of studies carried out, theoretically informed research on emergent groups is largely lacking. The aim of the present study is to investigate, and interpret theoretically, the assembling process, i.e., the formation of emergent groups of outsider volunteer…
Theorizing reactive policy entrepreneurship
In this article, we examine public policy change at the local level of governance in the aftermath of an extraordinary event. Using the case study of a Swedish municipality after the sweeping forest fire of 2014, we contend that policy entrepreneurship, like its market counterpart, may under certain conditions take on a wider range of behaviors that are not underpinned by the proactive quest for opportunities. Rather, a sense of urgency and neces…
In Scriptura Veritas? Exploring Measures for Identifying Increased Cognitive Load in Speaking and Writing
This study aims to establish a methodological framework for investigating deception in both spoken and written language production. A foundational premise is that the production of deceitful narratives induces a heightened cognitive load that has a discernable influence on linguistic processes during real-time language production. This study includes meticulous analysis of spoken and written data from two participants who told truthful and deceit…
Zlatan Ibrahimović
In October 2019, Zlatan Ibrahimović, the most successful and famous Swedish football player ever, was honoured with a monument by the Swedish Football Association and the city of Malmö. Born in Malmö in 1981, Ibrahimović grew up in a migrant area of the city (Rosengård). Growing up, he played football in local teams, and at the age of 19 he was sold by Malmö FF to Ajax for the highest transfer fee ever in Sweden. However, when Ibrahimović unexpec…

How Information Availability Interacts with Visual Attention during Judgment and Decision Tasks
Decisions in front of a supermarket shelf probably involve a mix of visually available information and associated memories—and interactions between those two. Several cognitive processes, such as decision making, search, and various judgments, are therefore likely to co‐occur, and each process will influence visual attention. We conducted two eye‐tracking experiments capturing parts of these features by having participants make either judgments o…

Clustering and inertia
The decentralist intention of the reform-to give actors at the sub-national levels freedom to integrate home care according to varying local circumstances-has resulted in a sub-national inter-organizational network structure at the county council, rather than municipal, level, which is highly inert and difficult to change
Central Steering And Local Networks
Recently, some European social scientists have claimed that the old legal‐bureau‐cratic model of administration has been replaced by a new paradigm in public administration, characterized by a strong emphasis on collaboration in local inter‐organizational networks. The proponents of this policy network approach take a clearly voluntaristic view on policy implementation; network actors build consensus in negotiation processes, and the role of cent…
