  • Mathematical impossibilities

    Ulrich Meyer•ARTICLE•Inquiry•2024

This paper argues that modal realism has a problem with mathematical impossibilities. Due to the peculiar way it treats both propositions and mathematical objects, modal realism cannot distinguish the content of different mathematically impossible beliefs. While one might be happy to identify all logically impossible beliefs, there are many different mathematically impossible beliefs, none of which is a belief in a logical contradiction. The fact…

  • Efficiently generating geometric inhomogeneous and hyperbolic random graphs

    Open Access•Thomas Bläsius, Tobias Friedrich et al.•ARTICLE•Network Science•2022•References: 18

Hyperbolic random graphs (HRGs) and geometric inhomogeneous random graphs (GIRGs) are two similar generative network models that were designed to resemble complex real-world networks. In particular, they have a power-law degree distribution with controllable exponent $\beta$ and high clustering that can be controlled via the temperature $T$ . We present the first implementation of an efficient GIRG generator running in expected linear time. Besid…

  • Tense, propositions, and facts

    Open Access•Ulrich Meyer•ARTICLE•Synthese•2016•References: 16

  • Tense Logic

    Open Access•Ulrich Meyer•ARTICLE•Philosophy Compass•2015•References: 26

This article surveys some of the key issues that arise when one tries to use tense logic as a metaphysical theory of the nature of time. Topics discussed include basic tense logic, tense logic and verb tense, the structure of the time series, instants of time, quantified tense logic, and the expressive resources of tense logic

  • The Nature of Time

    Ulrich Meyer•BOOK•Nature of Time•2013

Ulrich Meyer defends a novel theory about the nature of time and argues against the consensus view that time and space are fundamentally alike. He presents a comprehensive defence of a 'modal' account, which emphasises the similarities between times and possible worlds in modal logic, and is easily reconciled with the theory of relativity.

  • The Triviality of Presentism

Ulrich Meyer•CHAPTER•New Papers on the Present•2013

  • Modal property comprehension

  • Time-dependent bioactivity of preparations from cactus pear (Opuntia ficus indica) and ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) on human skin fibroblasts and keratinocytes

    Open Access•Alexandra Deters, A M Deters et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2012

  • Effectiveness of subcutaneous injections of a cartilage preparation in osteoarthritis of the knee—A randomized, placebo controlled phase II study

Open Access•Matthew Lamont, Roman Huber et al.•ARTICLE•Complementary Therapies in Medicine•2010

For the primary outcome parameter pain AG5 was not superior to placebo after 4 weeks of treatment but the equal reduction of pain in combination with higher reduction of pain medication suggests an effect of the preparation. The long term effect of AG5 on sparing pain medication should be further investigated.
