  • Factors affecting early identification of pregnant women by community health workers in Morogoro, Tanzania

    Open Access•Gasto Frumence, M Goodman et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

We present a framework for the interaction of factors that affect CHWs' ability to identify pregnant women early in gestation. Further studies need to be conducted investigating optimal workload for CHWs, as well as reasons pregnant women might conceal their pregnancies

  • Jamaica's measles elimination experience

Jon Mark Hirshon, Beryl Irons et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1999•References: 2

OBJECTIVES: This article describes the effort to eliminate measles from Jamaica and its impact on measles incidence. METHODS: In addition to routine measles vaccination, the Jamaican Ministry of Health implemented a strategy of a 1-time-only catch-up vaccination campaign, conducted in 1991, and periodic follow-up campaigns, the first of which occurred in 1995. RESULTS: Since 1991, despite careful surveillance, no serologically confirmed indigenou…

  • Molecular phylogeny of the New World monkeys (Platyrrhini, primates) based on two unlinked nuclear genes

Open Access•Horacio Schneider, Iracilda Sampaio et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1996•References: 26

Nuclear sequences of the 1.8 kilobase (kb) long intron 1 of the interstitial retinol-binding protein gene (IRBP), previously determined for 11 of the 16 extant genera of New World monkeys (superfamily Ceboidea, infraorder Platyrrhini), have now been determined for the remaining 5 genera. The maximum parsimony trees found, first with IRBP sequences alone and then with tandemly combined IRBP and epsilon-globin gene sequences from the same species, …

  • Key Relationships of Never Married, Childless Older Women

    Robert L Rubinstein, Baine B Alexander et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Gerontology•1991•Cited by: 30•References: 1

The key relationships of never married, childless older women, that is, those relationships described as central, compelling, enduring, or significant throughout their lifetimes, were explored in this study. Analysis of qualitative, ethnographically based interviews with 31 women indicated that the key relationships they describe fall into three classes: ties through blood, friendships, and those we label "constructed" ties (kin-like nonkin relat…
