  • Tell el-Amarna, Autumn 2024 to Spring 2025

Open Access•Anna Stevens, Gretchen R Dabbs et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•2025

Fieldwork at Amarna from autumn 2024 to spring 2025 involved excavation and survey in Amarna’s housing areas, including the house of the vizier Nakht, and the continuation of several post-excavation projects. The post-excavation work reported on here is the study of human skeletal materials, pottery, and matting from the non-elite cemeteries; relief fragments from the Maru-Aten; zooarchaeological samples from the house of Panehesy; and lithics an…

  • Cultural Differences and Interdependencies in Climate Change Mitigation Efforts and Their Psychological Antecedents Across 63 Countries

    Open Access•Danila Valko, Kristin Thompson•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•2025•References: 9

Climate change research, like much of social science, is biased toward WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) populations, limiting its global relevance. Even cross‐national studies often suffer from methodological inconsistencies due to cultural and geographic interdependencies. This study examines how such differences shape psychological drivers and national climate mitigation outcomes. Using preregistered analyses on large…

  • A limestone ear from an unexcavated area at Amarna

    Open Access•Kristin Thompson•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•2011

Publication of a surface find from Amarna, an over life-size limestone ear which was possibly a sculptor's practice piece. This may point to the existence of an unexcavated sculptor's workshop, as well as providing further evidence for colossal statuary at Amarna

  • A Shattered Granodiorite Dyad of Akhenaten and Nefertiti from Tell El-Amarna

    Open Access•Kristin Thompson•ARTICLE•The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology•2006

In 1992 188 pieces of a shattered granodiorite dyad depicting Akhenaten and Nefertiti seated beside each other were found in an excavation dump at Tell el-Amarna. Considerable evidence shows that the pieces had originally been discovered in 1912 by Ludwig Borchardt's expedition in the complex of the sculptor Thutmose, along with a matching granodiorite head that was taken to Germany (Berlin 21358). From 2001 to 2003, reconstruction was carried ou…

    Kristin Thompson•ARTICLE•Cinema Journal•1993•Cited by: 1

Since the mid-1960s, the serious study of the cinema has expanded enormously. Many universities, colleges, and high schools now offer courses in the area. Moreover, scholarly publishing on cinema has burgeoned and gained respectability. Several scholarly presses now regularly bring out books on the subject, and there are refereed film journals. One important facet of the rise of cinema as an academic discipline has been a new concern to illustrat…

    Kristin Thompson•ARTICLE•Cinema Journal•1977•Cited by: 1

When Part II of Ivan the Terrible was released in the West, Dwight Macdonald wrote a review which attempted to interpret the film in terms of the circumstances in which it was made. He assumed that, Taken on the surface, Ivan II is a parable, justifying Stalin's policies.1 He equated the Oprichniki2 with the GPU, the boyars with the kulaks, and Ivan's treacherous relatives with the Old Bolsheviks. But, Macdonald adds, this surface reading is-supe…
