Evidence suggests that Indigenous Peoples have the highest rate of death by homicide compared to other ethnic groups in the USA. Despite this alarming disparity and its fatal implications, there seems little attention paid to this crisis outside of Indigenous communities, and literature on the violence perpetrated against this population is comparatively scarce. Individual and community predictors of arrests in Canada
This survey of a national Canadian sample examines the associations between individual- and community-level factors with arrest by police. Indigenous Peoples were more than twice as likely to have been arrested than White people. Indigenous Peoples living in Indigenous enclaves were nearly five times as likely to be arrested than White people in similar communities. Nibi and Cultural Affordance at Walpole Island First Nations
Through an application of the Environmental Affordance (EA) Model, this paper explores the impact of environmental degradation on the community at Walpole Island First Nation. We outline how a change in relationships, broadly defined within an Anishinaabek ontology, can impact not only access to the local ecosystem but also how the affordances offered are lost.
