Obsidian Hydration Dating of the Desert Culture on the Coconino Plateau
Obsidian hydration dating has been used in past attempts to date preceramic Desert culture occupation of the Coconino Plateau just south of Grand Canyon. Cohonina Adaptation to the Coconino Plateau
Site data gathered by intensive survey in the Cohonina culture area near Williams, Arizona, indicate that this prehistoric group has been inaccurately characterized in the archaeological literature to date. The survey data are used as a basis for suggesting that the Cohonina were much more closely involved in general Southwestern developmental trends than has been previously postulated. This paper examines prehistoric developments in the Vosberg locality of central Arizona in relation to developments in the greater Salado area. The Vosberg locality is comprised of a single, small valley located in Gila County, Arizona, approximately 10 km southeast of the town of Young, placing it in an ill-defined boundary region between the Salado area to the west and south and the Mogollon area to the east
