  • Observing Protest from a Place

Johanna Siméant, Hélène Baillot et al.•BOOK•Observing Protest from a Place•2025

Social movements throughout the world have been central to history, politics, society, and culture. Observing Protest from a Place examines the impact of one such campaign, the global justice movement, as seen from the southern hemisphere. Drawing upon a collective survey from the 2011 World Social Forum in Dakar, the contributions explore a number of vital issues, including the methodological problems of studying international activist gathering…

  • A Well-Adjusted Debt

    Open Access•Hélène Baillot•ARTICLE•International Review of Social…•2021•References: 5

This article analyses the process by which the issues of debt and structural adjustment were redefined by a plurality of actors, from institutional experts to activists, during the 1980s and 1990s. Although it mainly focuses on the 1990s, when the Jubilee 2000 campaign emerged, blossomed, and died, it takes into account the institutional mobilization preceding it. It then points to the need to think about the dynamics of competition and the divis…

  • État documentaire et identification mathématique

Keith Breckenridge, Hélène Baillot et al.•ARTICLE•Politique africaine•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 2

This study of the anti-debt coalition USA Jubilee addresses the relationship between advocacy and discursive moderation by examining advocacy as a practice “in tension” and, more precisely, by considering the influence of the at once real and supposed constraints of internal and external acceptability that shape the advocates’ action. Despite their technical veneer, the controversies that divide the coalition represent occasions for exploring and…
