  • Perceptions and Practices Relating to Condom Use among Urban Men in Haiti

Michaelle L Boulos, Reginald Boulos et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•1991•Cited by: 1

This report is based on a survey conducted in 1986-87 of sexually active adult male residents in a low-income community of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The objectives were to investigate knowledge of and attitudes toward condoms; to evaluate the effectiveness of the existing condom distribution program; and to obtain information that can be used in the design of strategies to increase condom acceptance and use among men throughout Haiti. A final sample…

Douglas J Nichols, Douglas Nichols et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•1985

This study examines contraceptive use among clients at the three clinics providing family planning services in Dakar, Senegal in early 1983. Most clients first became interested in family planning following the birth of a child, and most are interested in spacing future pregnancies, although one-third state that they want no more children. The clinic itself was found to be an important determinant of the type of contraceptive used, with only the …

  • Child Survivorship and Pregnancy Spacing in Iran

    Open Access•Barbara Janowitz, Douglas J Nichols•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•1983

Using data collected over a 12-month period (1977–78) from more than 15,000 hospital deliveries at a single maternity hospital in Tehran, Iran, we have examined the effects of previous pregnancy outcomes, breast-feeding and contraceptive use on birth spacing. The outcomes of previous pregnancies, particularly the most recent, significantly affect the length of the pregnancy interval, and so does breast-feeding. Pregnancy outcomes influence both b…

  • The changing tempo of fertility in Korea

    Peter J Donaldson, Douglas J Nichols•ARTICLE•Population Studies•1978•Cited by: 5•References: 6

Korea is one of a number of East and South-east Asian countries for which there is evidence of declines in period fertility rates. Between 1960 and 1970, the total fertility rate in Korea decreased by roughly one-third. There has also been a reduction in the interval between marriage and first birth and an increase in age-specific fertility among younger women. Information on the mean number of children ever born to ever-married women after speci…

  • North American and European species of Momipites (“Engelhardtia”) and related Genera

    Douglas J Nichols•ARTICLE•Geoscience and Man•1973

Juglandaceous pollen of the Early Tertiary deposits of North America and Europe exhibit basic morphology like that of modern species of the family and some features not found in modern species. Pollen morphology suggests several phyletic trends within the family in Early Tertiary time. Morphogenetic trends among triporate species of the Juglandaceae, especially of the Engelhardia‐Alfaroa group, involve thinning, thickening, and folding of exine a…

  • Palynology, petrology, and depositional environments of some early tertiary lignites in Texas

    Douglas J Nichols, Alfred Traverse•ARTICLE•Geoscience and Man•1971

Predominantly nonmarine early Tertiary sediments of the Wilcox Group in Texas include numerous local lignite deposits. Recent subsurface mapping has defined several interrelated depositional systems representing six sedimentary environments, in outcropping and subsurface Wilcox in Texas. Lignite occurs in three of the environments so defined; these are (1) fluvial, (2) deltaic, and (3) lagoonal. Plant microfossils and coal macerals from the Wilco…
