Love and Mental Health: Couple Relationship Quality and Depressive Symptoms Among Chilean Emerging Adults
Given the growing significance of romantic relationships in the lives of emerging adults, investigating the role of perceived relationship quality in depressive symptoms is relevant for understanding mental health dynamics during this developmental stage. The present study examined the association between perceived quality of romantic relationship and depressive symptoms in emerging adults, as well as the moderating role of sex assigned at birth,…
Estrategia de cronicidad de Navarra, demostrando mejoras en resultados en salud

Accordance and conflict between religious and scientific precautions against Covid-19 in 27 societies
Meaning-making systems underlie perceptions of the efficacy of threat-mitigating behaviors. Religion and science both offer threat mitigation, yet these meaning-making systems are often considered incompatible. Do such epistemological conflicts swamp the desire to employ diverse precautions against threats? Or do individuals—particularly individuals who are highly reactive to threats—hedge their bets by using multiple threat-mitigating practices …
Exploring attachment profiles in emerging adults: Insights from global and romantic domains
Despite previous studies documenting the existence of distinct attachment models that provide complementary information, there is a gap in research examining empirically attachment profiles that integrate both global attachment and attachment in specific domains from a person-centered approach. Based in the hierarchical structure of attachment representations, the present study evaluated the existence of different attachment profiles, using conti…

The Teacher’s Rhetoric of Liberal Democracy and Minori'ethage in La patota (Argentina, 2015): An Open Decolonial Debate
La patota (Argentina, 2015) recreates the experience of Paulina, a young lawyer who participates in a civics program in a rural school next to Posadas (Misiones). As in the plot of the original 60s film, the lawyer-teacher is raped by a gang (patota), of which some of her students are a part. She becomes pregnant and decides not to have an abortion. Based on the modernity/coloniality perspective, this socio-critical study applies the neologism “m…
(In)Alienable Worth? Cultural Logics of Dignity, Honor, and Face and their Links to Prosociality Across the World
Cultural logic is a set of cultural scripts and patterns organized around a central theme. The cultural logics of dignity, honor, and face describe different ways of evaluating a person’s worth and maintaining cooperation. These cultural logics vary in prevalence across cultures. In this study, we collaboratively develop and validate a measure capturing these cultural logics, which will allow us to map world cultures based on the prevalence of th…
The diffusion of energy technologies. Evidence from renewable, fossil, and nuclear energy patents
Technology innovation is widely recognised as a critical means in tackling climate change and fulfilling energy policy objectives. The objective of this paper is twofold: first, to provide a descriptive analysis of innovation in energy technology across countries and sectors and over time; and second, to explore the determining factors of patented knowledge diffusion of energy technologies by distinguishing between renewables and other energy pat…
Minori'ethage Memories and Deschooling Society in Verónico Cruz. La deuda interna (Argentina, 1988): A Decolonial Tribute to the Qulla Culture of Jujuy
In the early 1980s, the Argentine filmmaker Miguel Pereira was a student at the London Film School. He was moved by Argentina’s social reality and the fact that young conscripts from Jujuy, and other local settings, were sent to fight in the Malvinas War. In 1988, he paid what I call a decolonial tribute to the Qulla people of Jujuy with his first feature film Verónico Cruz. La Deuda Interna. I argue that Pereira’s cinematic commemoration reinter…
Jealousy protest to a social rival compared to a nonsocial rival in Chilean infants 10–20 months' old
Jealousy protests have been linked to the intrusion of social rivals challenging infants' exclusive access to maternal care and resources that typically accompany attachment. Previous studies revealed that the experimental presentation of social rivals evokes protest in as early as 6 months old infants. This study replicated research on jealousy protests in a novel language and sociocultural context with 10–20 months old infants. We compared prot…
Disgust sensitivity relates to attitudes toward gay men and lesbian women across 31 nations
Previous work has reported a relation between pathogen-avoidance motivations and prejudice toward various social groups, including gay men and lesbian women. It is currently unknown whether this association is present across cultures, or specific to North America. Analyses of survey data from adult heterosexuals ( N = 11,200) from 31 countries showed a small relation between pathogen disgust sensitivity (an individual-difference measure of pathog…

Men say "I love you" before women do: Robust across several countries
Feeling and expressing love is at the core of romantic relationships, but individuals differ in their proclivity to worry about their relationships and/or avoid intimacy. Saying "I love you" signals a commitment to a future with our romantic partner. Contrary to gender stereotypes, research in the United States demonstrates that men are more likely to confess love first. We aimed to replicate this sex difference in an online cross-national sample…
Paradoxes of Global and Local Development in the Film Verónico Cruz. La deuda interna: A Hybrid Discussion Group in Spanish for Specific Purposes
The detrimental effects of neoliberalism accompany globalization. The paradoxes generated by the global-regional gap have revealed local cultures’ double vulnerability to national and international development. Miguel Pereira fictionalizes this complex phenomenon in the film Verónico Cruz. La deuda interna (Argentina, 1988). Inspired by the autobiographical narrative of Fortunato Ramos, a rural teacher and artist, the film denounces the sociohist…
To which world regions does the valence-dominance model of social perception apply
Over the past 10 years, Oosterhof and Todorov’s valence–dominance model has emerged as the most prominent account of how people evaluate faces on social dimensions. In this model, two dimensions (valence and dominance) underpin social judgements of faces. Because this model has primarily been developed and tested in Western regions, it is unclear whether these findings apply to other regions. We addressed this question by replicating Oosterhof an…
Una lectura sociocrítica sobre minoriédad y resemantización docente en Shunko de Lautaro Murúa (Argentina, 1960)
The film Shunko (Argentina, 1960) by Lautaro Murúa, based on the autobiographical novel by Jorge W. Ábalos (1949), intertwines cinematographic aesthetics of the (first) New Argentine Cinema with the representation of critical pedagogy. In the context of Latin American studies and from a sociocritical perspective, this article analyzes the way in which Murúa (as main actor and director) represents the urban teacher in relation to Bakhtinian dialog…

Attachment and Intrasexual Competitiveness in Committed Individuals From Chile
The present research examined the association between intrasexual competitiveness (as an adaptive feature of human mating) and adult attachment dimensions (which develop throughout ontogeny and are relatively stable patterns of relationship approaching in adulthood), postulating that the dimensions of attachment will be predictive of intrasexual competitiveness (the negative perception of same sex-others as potential mating rivals), but in partic…
