Leading with a cool head and a warm heart
Leaders of today need to achieve well in terms of task performance, perceiving low stress, and having high levels of work engagement. One may ask whether trait-based leadership resource factors can be identified and how such resource factors might relate to task performance, perceived stress, and work engagement. Our aim was to test the hypothesis, derived from Hobfoll’s motivational Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, that there are trait-ba…
If you have a choice, you have trouble
It is well known that the presentation order of choice options often affects decision outcomes to a significant degree. However, despite the significance and wide occurrence of the effects, they are ignored in most preference models. Furthermore, psychophysical findings of stimulus‐magnitude dependent presentation‐order effects have not been acknowledged previously in the cognitive literature on preference judgments. Thus, the potential moderatin…
Swedish Adaptations of the Novaco Anger Scale-1998, the Provocation Inventory, and the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2
The first Swedish adaptations of the Novaco Anger Scale-1998 (R. W. Novaco, personal communication, April 11, 2001), the Provocation Inventory, (R. W. Novaco, personal communication, April 11, 2001) and the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 (Spielberger, 1999) (named as NAS-1998-S, PI-S and STAXI-2-S respectively), were performed in this study. A sample of undergraduate males ( N =100) from Stockholm University completed the adaptations. I…
Person perception through facial photographs
Thirty‐two photographs of male faces, four for each combination of the presence and absence of glasses, hair, and beard, were rated by 75 judges on 23 scales, assessing the typicality for 15 occupations as well as eight personal qualities. The effects of facial attributes on ratings formed characteristic profiles for the different scales. The pattern of correlations between facial attributes and factor scores from a factor analysis of the ratings…
The time-order error and its relatives
A number of studies on the time-order error (TOE) and related perceptual and judgmental phenomena are reviewed. It is concluded that the TOE should be classified as a perceptual phenomenon that can be understood and predicted with adaptation-level theory and the notion of sensation weighting. It is also concluded that sensation weighting underlies assimilation and contrast phenomena and that it is a manifestation of a general cognitive principle:…
