Development and preliminary validation of the Pressure To Lose Pregnancy-related Weight scale (PLPW) in U.S. military active-duty Service women
Several theoretical models highlight the importance of appearance-based pressures to conform to sociocultural body ideals in the development and maintenance of body dissatisfaction and disordered eating. Qualitative data suggest that perinatal women experience significant pressure to lose pregnancy-related weight, yet there is no validated quantitative measure of appearance-based sociocultural pressures during pregnancy. This pressure may be espe…
First-gen in the classroom
First-generation scholars are individuals who are the first in their family to attend a four-year college or university. In response to affirmative action bans, admissions committees have begun to use first-generation status as a way to promote a diverse student body, leading to an increase in the number of first generation students. Within the sociology of education, first-generation scholars are typically discussed from a deficit-based perspect…
“We Worship All Sizes and All Shapes That Are Brown and Black!”
Community is central to the praxis of transformative justice as communities provide social, mental, and financial support. This article utilizes transformative justice as an analytic to examine my experiences in community with Black queer folks at Shuga Shaq: An All People of Color Burlesque Revue. I utilize Black feminist autoethnography to interpret and historicize my experiences in community among Black queer folks in a predominantly white U.S…

These results validate the OMIS for use across occupational groups and genders, facilitating further research in this space and permitting direct comparisons between diverse occupational groups for the first time. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
Measuring civilian moral injury
Results shed light on differential relationships between the type of MI event and clinical outcomes, suggesting some conceptual differences in how MI is experienced in general civilian populations. Results suggest that civilian populations are also susceptible to MI, but that existing measures may have problems capturing this effectively. While the MIES-C and EMIS-C are supported for civilian use, further scale construction efforts for this popul…

Gazing at “It”
Transgender representations are predominantly negative and represent trans identities in dehumanizing tropes. I analyze the sole Black. transgender character on Orange is the New Black, Sophia Burset, to theorize a framework for transgender subjectivity that interrupts dehumanizing tropes. Sophia’s narrative on the show constructs transgender subjectivity through Sophia’s medical transformation, relationship with a Catholic nun, and lack of commu…
GRIPP2 reporting checklists
While the patient and public involvement (PPI) evidence base has expanded over the past decade, the quality of reporting within papers is often inconsistent, limiting our understanding of how it works, in what context, for whom, and why. To develop international consensus on the key items to report to enhance the quality, transparency, and consistency of the PPI evidence base. To collaboratively involve patients as research partners at all stages…

Understanding the Life Histories of Pregnant-Involved Young Aboriginal Women With Substance Use Experiences in Three Canadian Cities
Despite attention paid to substance use during pregnancy, understandings of young Aboriginal women's experiences based on their perspectives have been virtually absent in the published literature. This study's objective was to understand the life experiences of pregnant-involved young Aboriginal women with alcohol and drugs. Semi-structured interviews to gather life histories were conducted with 23 young Aboriginal women who had experiences with …
