A novel and cost-effective 3D-printed model enabling stepwise simulation workflows of posterior lumbar interbody fusion for resident training - a pilot feasibility study
OBJECTIVE: Lumbosacral vertebral models with intervertebral discs and anatomical nerve structures were made by 3D printing technology to improve orthopedic residents’ surgical skills in posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) simulation training. METHODS: In contrast to conventional spinal models limited to pedicle screw insertion training, this study introduces an innovative synthetic simulator that integrates anatomically precise lumbosacral v…
Biochar‐Modulated Microbial Communities Improve Phosphorus Cycling and Rice P Uptake in Low‐P Paddy Soil
Phosphorus (P) is a key macronutrient for plants. Nevertheless, its low efficiency and overuse in paddy soil were addressing important agricultural and environmental issues. Biochar has been generally accepted as an effective and environmentally friendly material for improving soil fertility, but its role in soil P cycling and related microbial processes has not been adequately understood. In this study, a field microcosm experiment was carried o…
Family Coping Among Patients With Heart Failure
Heart failure is a severe and terminal stage of various heart diseases characterized by complex clinical syndromes. With regard to the management of HF, the patient’s family is the most common and essential resource. The manner in which the family copes with the disease can lead to effective or ineffective management. It is necessary to explore how families of patients with heart failure as a whole are coping with the disease. Our qualitative des…
Individualized rs-fMRI reveals brain-circuit heterogeneity and predicts early recurrence in trigeminal neuralgia
Patients with trigeminal neuralgia exhibit abnormalities in multiple brain regions. These findings demonstrate that individualized functional imaging biomarkers provide an effective framework for stratifying the risk of early postoperative recurrence. Specifically, abnormalities in the Insula_L, Fusiform_L, Cerebellum_3_R, Temporal_Sup_L, Vermis_3, and Fusiform_R can be defined as high-risk brain regions for predicting short-term recurrence after…
Sleep patterns and smartphone use among left-behind children
This study reveals complex associations between sleep patterns, smartphone use, and depressive symptoms among left-behind children. The identified behavioral profiles provide insights into population heterogeneity and inform targeted intervention strategies. Findings emphasize the importance of addressing both sleep and technology use in mental health initiatives for this vulnerable population
Terrain Skeleton Construction and Analysis in Loess Plateau of Northern Shaanxi
A terrain skeleton determines the overall structure and characteristics of the terrain and indicates the presence of significant terrain features, such as ridges and valleys. It plays an important role in terrain representation and reconstruction, hydrological analysis of watersheds, and other scientific studies and engineering applications. Previous studies of terrain skeleton have been mostly focused on the extraction of terrain skeletons, igno…
Microwave-Enhanced Photolysis of Norfloxacin
Degradation of norfloxacin (NOR) was studied using a combination of microwave and UV irradiation methods (MW/UV process). Remarkable synergistic effect was found between MW and UV light. The removal rate with the MW/UV process was much faster than that with UV light irradiation only. Degradation of NOR followed second-order kinetics and ~72% of NOR could be removed in the first 5 min of MW/UV reaction. Influence of inorganic ions (cations (K+, Mg…
Determination of Total Tritium in Urine from Residents Living in the Vicinity of Nuclear Power Plants in Qinshan, China
To estimate the tritium doses of the residents living in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant, urine samples of 34 adults were collected from residents living near the Qinshan nuclear power plant. The tritium-in-urine (HTO plus OBT) was measured by liquid scintillation counting. The doses of tritium-in-urine from participants living at 2, 10 and 22 km were in a range of 1.26-6.73 Bq/L, 1.31-3.09 Bq/L and 2.21-3.81 Bq/L, respectively, while the a…
Radon Concentrations in Drinking Water in Beijing City, China and Contribution to Radiation Dose
(222)Rn concentrations in drinking water samples from Beijing City, China, were determined based on a simple method for the continuous monitoring of radon using a radon-in-air monitor coupled to an air-water exchanger. A total of 89 water samples were sampled and analyzed for their (222)Rn content. The observed radon levels ranged from detection limit up to 49 Bq/L. The calculated arithmetic and geometric means of radon concentrations in all meas…
Radioactivity of Drinking-Water in the Vicinity of Nuclear Power Plants in China Based on a Large-Scale Monitoring Study
The public concern for radioactivity of drinking-water has been increasing in recent years after the rapid development of nuclear power plants, and especially after the Fukushima nuclear accident. In this study, the radioactivity of water samples collected in the vicinity of nuclear facilities from seven provinces in China was measured and an average annual equivalent effective dose derived from drinking-water ingestion was calculated. The result…
