Evidence-Informed Primary Bereavement Care: A Study Protocol of a Knowledge-to-Action Approach for Systems Change
Using a systems change approach to knowledge-to-action, the purpose of this study is to increase organizational and practitioner uptake of an evidence-informed primary bereavement care guideline in home and community care through a researcher-knowledge-user partnership. Guided by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research, a single case study design will be used to examine system change in its natural context. The project integrates a…
Establishing and maintaining international collaborative research teams: An Autobiographical Insight
Despite the growing impetus for international collaborative research teams (ICRT), there are relatively few resources available to guide and support researchers through the processes of establishing and maintaining ICRTs. In particular, no articles were found that provided researchers' firsthand accounts of being a member of such a team. Having access to such personal accounts can help both experienced and novice researchers learn more directly a…
Getting through Ethics: The Fit between Research Ethics Board Assessments and Qualitative Research
In this paper, we draw on the authors' collective experiences as qualitative researchers undergoing research ethics reviews. We highlight specific areas within our standard national guidelines that support qualitative research. Using case examples, we illustrate how diverse interpretations of these guidelines can be inconsistent and problematic for qualitative researchers. We outline recommendations for transparency, reciprocity, and streamlining…
Facing Existential Realities: Exploring Barriers and Challenges to Spiritual Nursing Care
Although nurses of the past and present recognize the importance of spiritual care to health and healing, in practice and education, spiritual care dwells on the periphery of the profession. The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the reasons behind this contradiction. Using the phenomenological approach, open-ended interviews were conducted with 29 individuals, including oncology nurses, patients and their families, chapl…
Mapping the Processes and Qualities of Spiritual Nursing Care
Although the importance of spiritual care is widely recognized in nursing theory, recent research suggests that it is rarely attended to in nursing practice. One explanation for this contradiction is the conceptual confusion that exists regarding the meaning of spiritual nursing care. To help unravel this confusion, in-depth open-ended interviews were conducted in an oncology care setting with 29 individuals representing the multiple perspectives…
