  • Zero price effect on hotel demand

    Open Access•Xian Zhang, José M Grisolía et al.•ARTICLE•Tourism Management•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 49

A Choice Experiment is employed to analyze the effect of a free night promotion on hotel demand in the setting of a relatively underdeveloped area in China. Results from Error Components models show evidence in favor of a non-rational “zero price effect” (ZPE): with total price and all other aspects equal, people tend to choose the hotel which offers one free night. In addition, free pricing is shown to have stronger effects in diverting preferen…

  • Walks of Experience

Open Access•Emilie Pine, Maeve Casserly et al.•ARTICLE•Theatre Research International•2020

Digital-audio performance walks can be powerful performances, responding to troubling pasts, giving voice to testimony, and creating an affective geography that satisfies a participant's desire to connect with the city rather than just walk through it. Yet digital-audio performance walks also raise questions about performance and voyeurism, and the disconnection of private headphone experience, alongside issues of agency, detachment and appropria…

  • Along which identity lines does 21st-century Britain divide? Evidence from Big Brother

    Open Access•Tom Lane•ARTICLE•Rationality and Society•2020•References: 47

This article measures discrimination in the reality TV show Big Brother, a high-stakes environment. Data on contestants' nominations are taken from 35 series of the British version of the show, covering the years 2000-2016. Race and age discrimination are found, with contestants more likely to nominate those of a different race and those different in age from themselves. However, no discrimination is identified on the basis of gender, geographica…

  • Promoting voter registration

    Open Access•Felix Kölle, Tom Lane et al.•ARTICLE•Behavioural Public Policy•2019•Cited by: 2•References: 16

We report two studies investigating whether, and if so how, different low-cost interventions affect voter registration rates. Low-cost message-based interventions are increasingly used to promote target behaviours. While growing evidence shows that such ‘nudges’ often significantly impact behaviour, understanding of why interventions work or fail in particular contexts remains underdeveloped. In a natural field experiment conducted before the 201…

  • Impacts of Past Climate and Environmental Change

Tom Lane•ARTICLE•The Historic Environment Policy &…•2017

As an example of the effect of climate and environmental and, therefore, landscape change on archaeological sites this paper sets out the positions of known prehistoric and Roman salterns in Lincolnshire (Eastern England) and the present condition and archaeological potential of such sites. Their current position – some recorded as surface finds and some sealed by later sedimentation – demonstrates the dynamic nature of wetland landscapes in vari…
