  • Constructive Realism: "Why Ancestor Is Possible" in Zhu Xi's Religion View

    Open Access•Linqiang Quan, Xiaodong Xie•ARTICLE•Religions•2025•References: 2

Traditional Chinese ancestor worship implicitly raises a fundamental question: How are ancestors possible? This question was formally articulated in the Zhu Xi' philosophy. Qi holds ontological status: the "birth" of things arises from the aggregation of qi, while their "death" means the dispersion of qi-a clearly naturalistic proposition. Yet, paradoxically, Zhu Xi also asserts that during sacrificial rituals, deceased ancestors can exist in som…

  • On the Coherence of Mencius' Concept of Li: An Analysis Based on Moral Reasons Internalism

    Open Access•Shuwen Liu, Xiaodong Xie•ARTICLE•Religions•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 3

This paper addresses the problem of coherence, i.e., whether the internal and external dimensions of li (礼 rituals, rites, and the observance of them) are compatible. This problem stems mainly from Mencius' seemingly conflicting statements. On the one hand, he emphasized the goodness of xing (性 human nature) in terms of the goodness of the heart-mind. On the other hand, he defended the act of following li regardless of one's heart-mind. This pape…

  • One or Two Roots? Yi Zhi and the Dilemma of Practical Reason

    Open Access•Xiaodong Xie•ARTICLE•Religions•2022•References: 7

Mohism has two versions of ethics, attributed to Mozi and Yi Zhi 夷之, respectively. Mozi introduced an ethics usually described as utilitarian, emphasizing universal love as the basis of impartiality. However, the problem with this emphasis is that it leads to neglecting the development of rational self-interest. Accordingly, Yi Zhi's remarks are a clarification or modification of Mozi's thoughts. First, Yi Zhi alluded to the concept of undifferen…

  • Cyberbullying Victimization and Adolescent Drinking Behavior: Deviant Peer Affiliation as a Mediator and Personal Growth Initiative as a Moderator

Open Access•Pei Chen, Mucheng Xin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Research has demonstrated a robust positive association between cyberbullying victimization and adolescent drinking behavior; however, the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship remain largely unexplored. Grounded in the social development model and person-environment interactions model, our study explored whether deviant peer affiliation mediated the relationship between cyberbullying victimization and adolescent drinki…

  • Health Risk Assessment of Inhalable Particulate Matter in Beijing Based on the Thermal Environment

    Open Access•Linyu Xu, Lin-Yu Xu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2014

Inhalable particulate matter (PM10) is a primary air pollutant closely related to public health, and an especially serious problem in urban areas. The urban heat island (UHI) effect has made the urban PM10 pollution situation more complex and severe. In this study, we established a health risk assessment system utilizing an epidemiological method taking the thermal environment effects into consideration. We utilized a remote sensing method to ret…

  • Origin and evolution of two Yugur sub-clans in Northwest China: A case study in paternal genetic landscape

Open Access•Ruixia Zhou, Daqun Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•2008

Overall, the diffusion of Mongolians during the Mongol Period has affected the Eastern Yugur more than the Western Yugur. The genetic contribution of the Han people to the Eastern Yugur seems to be more pronounced than to the Western Yugur. Besides the two different contributions referred to above, small population size and genetic drift have resulted in the genetic differentiation of the current sub-clans of Yugur
