  • The Council of Nicaea 325: Reassessing the Role of Eusebius of Caesarea

    Open Access•Samuel Fernández•ARTICLE•Theological Studies•2025

This article offers a comprehensive interpretation of the Council of Nicaea, in light of Eusebius of Caesarea’s role in the so-called Arian crisis. Given the historical-theological orientation of the study, it begins with hermeneutical caveats regarding the sources. It then examines the outbreak of the crisis, Eusebius’s theology before the controversy, the Ossius embassy, the Council of Antioch, and the Council of Nicaea itself. The article argu…

  • Origen’s Theological System in On First Principles: A Reconsideration of its Nature, Rationale, and Outline☆

    Open Access•Samuel Fernández•ARTICLE•Modern Theology•2022

This article aims to reconsider Origen’s theological system in the light of his treatise On First Principles . Was Origen a systematic thinker? If so, what kind of systematicity characterised his theology? Since the reception of the treatise was marked by theological quarrels, it is not possible to isolate its theology from the problems related to the transmission of the text. Therefore, the first part of the article tackles the text of On First …

With this objective, after the Introduction (1), the paper analyses the definition of spiritual abuse (2); tackles several topics stemming from the analysis of definitions, such as the nature of spiritual power and its effects (3), the issue of vulne…

  • Jesus "The Way" According to Origen and Marcellus: Confronting Two Patristic Traditions

    Open Access•Samuel Fernández•ARTICLE•Religions•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 9

The article aims to examine and compare the evangelic title of Jesus the Way (John 14:6) in two Christian authors who belonged to two opposing theological traditions, namely, Origen of Alexandria and Marcellus of Ancyra. This comparison, based on original texts, aims not only to show the differences between these two patristic traditions, but rather to identify some common traits that belong to the core of Christian faith. Thus, Origen of Alexand…
