  • Nine ‘myths’ about the building stock of Great Britain

Open Access•Stephen Evans, Philip Steadman et al.•ARTICLE•Buildings and Cities•2026

The National Buildings Database (NBD) has been delivered to the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). This covers the complete population of 2.2 million non-domestic premises and 30 million dwellings in Great Britain (but not Northern Ireland). Each is modelled in detail, in three dimensions, using the 3DStock method. Actual annual meter data are attached. This paper outlines some of the myths about the building stock—its compos…

  • Using smart energy meter data to design better policy

    Open Access•Tina Fawcett, Jason Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2024•References: 3

During winter 2022–23, residential energy prices were exceptionally high in Europe. Governments provided unprecedented energy support payments, but millions of households still suffered from inadequate access to energy. This paper uses gas and electricity smart meter data from 2019 to 20 to 2022–23 for 11,500 prepayment meter (PPM) customers in Great Britain to characterise energy use over time, by dwelling and household characteristics, examine …

  • Alpha oscillatory activity during attentional control in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention‐Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and ASD+ADHD

Open Access•Roser Cañigueral, Jason Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Psychology and…•2022

BACKGROUND: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) share impairments in top-down and bottom-up modulation of attention. However, it is not yet well understood if co-occurrence of ASD and ADHD reflects a distinct or additive profile of attention deficits. We aimed to characterise alpha oscillatory activity (stimulus-locked alpha desynchronisation and prestimulus alpha) as an index of integration of top-d…

  • Be Careful, Ye Catholic

    Open Access•Jason Palmer•ARTICLE•Religions•2021•References: 10

Globalization is not only the feverish insistence that land's superfluity is increasing exponentially, but it is also the willful ignorance of the reality underlying that illusion: Distance has not been annihilated. Distance, and the land it spans, is more important than ever. Globalization imagines away the land's importance because of whom it imagines to be "of the land". This entity, indigeneity, threatens to expose the lie upon which globaliz…

  • Mapping out fuzzy buzzwords - who sits where on sustainability and sustainable development

Open Access•Jason Palmer, Ian Cooper et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•1997

Environmentalism has spawned a new vocabulary. Even frequently used words are still poorly defined. Different groups use the same words to express different ideas; often definitions are coloured by the groups' incompatible core value systems. This leads to fuzziness and misunderstanding. Such tendencies mean that a common vocabulary does not necessarily make for better communication. Quite the contrary: the use of fuzzy buzzwords prevents differe…
