Who says men can never change: A corpus-based study of recent changes in the use of the Chinese plural suffix men
Language change in Modern Standard Chinese has been an area of research interest for several decades. However, the field continues to be characterized by a focus on written Chinese, with a lack of systematic, fine-grained analyses of specific morphosyntactic features in spoken Mandarin and a dearth of diachronic spoken data. This paper aims to address these shortcomings by examining recent developments in the use of the plural marker men based on…

This paper chooses to explore whether the changes observed, as in the use of the plural marker men , can also be traced in spoken Chinese. For the purposes of studying language change in progress, …
Food consumption patterns in the Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada: A cross-sectional telephone survey
The demographics and lifestyles of Canadians are changing, thereby influencing food choices and food preparation in the home. Although different dietary practices are associated with increased risk of foodborne illness, our ability to evaluate food consumption trends and assess risks associated with foodborne illness is limited by lack of data on current eating habits and consumer food safety practices. The objective of this study was to describe…
Old Pictures in New Frames: Issue Definition and Federal Arts Policy
Over the past three decades, those advocating for arts funding have shifted their arguments. When the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) was created in 1965, its supporters praised arts and culture for their uplifting qualities, and for their ability to counterbalance trends toward materialism and militarism. By the 1990s, arts advocates were far more likely to use instrumentalist arguments, showing that investment in arts and culture produce o…
