Modernization and Teenage Sexual Activity in Zambia: A Multinomial Logit Model
One of the major social problems in sub-Saharan Africa today is teenage pregnancy. In this article, the authors test a model based on modernization theories that attempt to explain the widespread prevalence of teenage sexual activity in African countries such as Zambia. Sexual Activity Among Junior Secondary School Girls in Zambia
This paper proposes a causal model of sexual activity among a randomly selected sample of 305 Junior secondary school girls in Zambia. The results indicate that liberal sexual attitudes influence romantic involvement with boys. Emotional involvement is likely to result in sexual activity. Traditional courtship forms are slowly being replaced by modern patterns of courtship behaviour. Policy and programme implications are discussed.

Differences in Spell Lengths Between the AFDC-Basic and AFDC-Unemployed Parents Programs
This article reports the findings of a study that compares the length of time people receive benefits from the Aid to Families with Dependent Children-Basic and -Unemployed Parents programs. The sample includes all first observed AFDC spells in Kenosha and Racine Counties, Wisconsin between 1987 and 1989. Findings indicate that AFDC-UP spells are significantly shorter than AFDC-Basic spells. The median spell length of AFDC-UP cases is 6.4 months …
