Any first monograph on a previously little studied but significant composer must always be welcome. Claire Fontijn's study of Bembo more than justifies its publication in the compelling way that she recounts her discoveries, and the evidence she produces to show that her sustained efforts over so many years to recover both the career and the output of the composer have been worthwhile
