  • Conflict and Coordination Mechanisms in Family Travel

Open Access•Shuo Yu, Xi Li et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Hospitality & Tourism…•2026

The existing literature reveals a lack of research on conflict and coordination mechanisms in family travel. This study extends generational theory by qualitatively examining real travel experiences among three-generation Chinese families. The findings identify conflicts arising from differences in perspectives, decision-making, preferences, and health concerns. These conflicts are managed through five coordination mechanisms: compartmentalized c…

  • Culinary linguistic landscapes

Shuo Yu, Xi Li et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Multilingual and…•2026•References: 63

Macau’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy emphasises its role as a multicultural hub, where culinary spaces function as symbolic sites of authenticity and attraction. This study examines Macau’s culinary linguistic landscapes, focusing on the signage, semiotic cues, and multilingual expressions that structure tourists’ encounters in street food districts such as Rua do Cunha. Drawing on linguistic landscape theory and a tri-dime…

  • Reflexivity in current themes in sociology of tourism

Jinsheng Zhu, Shuo Yu et al.•ARTICLE•Current Issues in Tourism•2025

This study reviews the conceptual and epistemological tensions of the current sociology of tourism research. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as a global pandemic causes a massive disruption to social stability that threatens human life and the economy. An effective forecasting system is arguably important to provide an early signal of the risk of COVID-19 infection so that the authorities are ready to protect the people from the worst. However, making a good forecasting model for infection risks in different cities or regions is not an easy task, be…

  • Exploring Public Sentiment During Covid-19

Open Access•Shuo Yu, Sihan He et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2023

COVID-19 has spread all over the world, accounting for countless death and enormous economic loss. Since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 as a pandemic, governments from different countries have made various policies to prevent the pandemic from becoming worse. However, civilian reactions to the pandemic vary when they face similar situations. This behavioral variation creates a challenge when it comes to policy-making. Such …

  • Can We Get an Ideal Job?”

Open Access•Shuo Yu, Liu Ying et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2023

In recent years, Chinese college graduates have faced a challenging employment situation, calling for an analysis of the social stratification function of higher education. This paper used linear regression to analyze factors influencing the occupational status attainment of college graduates. The social stratification function of higher education was found to be significant. Educational factors were essential for occupational status attainment. …

  • Diverging climate response of corn yield and carbon use efficiency across the U.S

Open Access•Shuo Yu, Nicola Falco et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

In this paper, we developed an open-source package to analyze the overall trend and responses of both carbon use efficiency (CUE) and corn yield to climate factors for the contiguous United States. Our algorithm enables automatic retrieval of remote sensing data through the Google Earth Engine (GEE) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) agricultural production data at the county level through application programming interface (API). Firstly, …

  • Familiarity-Based Collaborative Team Recognition in Academic Social Networks

Open Access•Shuo Yu, Feng Xia et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2022

Collaborative teamwork is key to major scientific discoveries. However, the prevalence of collaboration among researchers makes team recognition increasingly challenging. Previous studies have demonstrated that people are more likely to collaborate with individuals they are familiar with. In this work, we employ the definition of familiarity and then propose faMiliarity-based cOllaborative Team recOgnition (MOTO) algorithm to recognize collaborat…

  • An Upstream-Reciprocity-Based Strategy for Academic Social Networks Using Public Goods Game

Open Access•Nakema Y Deonauth, Mingchu Li et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2021

Academic social networks (ASNs) have attracted significant attention in recent years as researchers try to understand and improve how research is conducted. Several approaches have been investigated to identify, predict, and recommend scientific collaborators but few have considered to explore a strategy using the game theory. This article investigates the social phenomenon of upstream reciprocity (UR) using a game-theoretical framework. UR occur…

  • Detecting Outlier Patterns With Query-Based Artificially Generated Searching Conditions

Open Access•Shuo Yu, Feng Xia et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2021

In the age of social computing, finding interesting network patterns or motifs is significant and critical for various areas, such as decision intelligence, intrusion detection, medical diagnosis, social network analysis, fake news identification, and national security. However, subgraph matching remains a computationally challenging problem, let alone identifying special motifs among them. This is especially the case in large heterogeneous real-…
