The effect of different traditional Chinese exercises on bone mineral density in menopausal women
Smartphone usage behaviors and their association with De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis (DQT)among college students
Our findings suggest that increased smartphone usage time, phone games, social media, and leisure activities elevate the risk of DQT among college students. Furthermore, two specific gestures and two screen sizes were also linked to a heightened DQT risk. To mitigate DQT development, college students should reduce smartphone usage time and adopt appropriate gestures
The Impact of Haze Pollution on Chinese Local Government Debt
Can haze pollution effectively influence local government debt? This study uses data from 285 Chinese cities at the prefecture level or above from 2006 to 2019, and uses annual average sunny days as an instrumental variable to systematically analyze the impact of haze pollution on local government debt from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. The main conclusions of this study are: (1) there is a positive correlation between haze polluti…
Impact of Haze Pollution on Industrial Agglomeration
This study analyzes the relationship between haze pollution and industrial agglomeration using particulate matter (PM2.5) concentration data from 269 prefecture-level cities in China between 2007 and 2016. We calculate the industrial agglomeration level using the location entropy method with industrial output as the core variable. We find that the industrial agglomeration effect is adversely affected by increased haze pollution, proving a negativ…
Distinct Responses of Biofilm Carbon Metabolism to Nanoplastics with Different Surface Modifications
Recently, there is an increasing concern regarding the toxicity of nanoplastics (NPs) on freshwater organisms. However, knowledge about the potential impacts of NPs with different surface modification on freshwater biofilms is still very limited. In this research, biofilms were cultured in lab and exposed to nano polystyrene (PS) beads: non-functionalized PS NPs, PS-COOH NPs, and the carbon source utilization of biofilms were measured by BIOLOG E…
Effects of Biofilms on Trace Metal Adsorption on Plastics in Freshwater Systems
The formation of plastisphere on plastics and their potential impact on freshwater ecosystems have drawn increasing attention. However, there is still limited information about the effects of plastisphere on the heavy metal adsorption capacity and the related mechanism of plastic debris in different freshwaters. Herein, the trace metal adsorption capacity, kinetics and adsorption mechanisms of virgin and biofilm-covered plastic debris were invest…

Effects of Nanoplastics on Freshwater Biofilm Microbial Metabolic Functions as Determined by Biolog ECO Microplates
Nanoplastic (NP) contamination is becoming a pervasive issue as NPs, originating from microplastic particles, pose potentially harmful environmental impacts on aquatic ecosystems. The environmental hazards of NPs on microorganisms have been well documented in recent studies; however, little is known about their ecotoxicity effects on freshwater biofilms, which serve as important primary producers and decomposers and are highly connected with othe…
Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Particulate Phosphorus and Their Correlation with Environmental Factors in a Shallow Eutrophic Chinese Lake (Lake Taihu)
Spatial and seasonal variations of particulate phosphorus (PP) in a large shallow, eutrophic Lake Taihu with different ecotypes (including a phytoplankton-dominated zone, lake center zone, estuary zone and macrophyte-dominated zone) were investigated. The results showed that particulate organic phosphorus (POP) was the dominant form of PP (>88.0%). The concentration of POP showed higher levels in the bloom-sensitive northwestern zone (phytoplankt…
Transfer of development rights as an institutional innovation to address issues of property rights
The Evaluation on the Cadmium Net Concentration for Soil Ecosystems
Yixing, known as the "City of Ceramics", is facing a new dilemma: a raw material crisis. Cadmium (Cd) exists in extremely high concentrations in soil due to the considerable input of industrial wastewater into the soil ecosystem. The in situ technique of diffusive gradients in thin film (DGT), the ex situ static equilibrium approach (HAc, EDTA and CaCl2), and the dissolved concentration in soil solution, as well as microwave digestion, were appli…
Policy Approaches For Sustainable Conservation Of Built Heritage Using Transfer Of Development Rights
The important factors for successfully implementing transfer of development rights (TDR) programs have been explored. However, these factors are not yet adequate to guide the practice directly, especially for those cities at the early stage of exploring TDR. This research aims to find out how different cities/counties put these successful factors into practice to achieve sustainable conservation of built heritage by adopting a successful TDR fram…
Unpacking the Relationship between Outward Direct Investment and Innovation Performance
Developing a framework to appraise the critical success factors of transfer development rights (TDRs) for built heritage conservation
Distribution of metals in water and suspended particulate matter during the resuspension processes in Taihu Lake sediment, China
A strategy for evaluating antipyretic efficacy of Chinese herbal medicines based on UV spectra fingerprints
Developing a framework to appraise the critical success factors of transfer development rights (TDRs) for built heritage conservation
