Aggression in Social Anxiety
Although social anxiety (SA) is typically conceptualized as an internalizing vulnerability, a subset of socially anxious individuals display heightened aggression. The present study examined whether vulnerable narcissism—particularly narcissistic self‐centeredness—helps explain heterogeneity in the SA–aggression association. Chinese university students ( N = 872) completed measures of SA (Social Interaction Anxiety Scale; Social Phobia Scale), vu…
Emotion Beliefs and Emotion Regulation Strategies Associated With Anxiety Symptoms Among Grade 7–8 Adolescent Students in China
The current study aimed to investigate the relationship among two fundamental emotional beliefs (controllability and goodness), emotion regulation strategies, and anxiety symptoms. The study evaluated the mediatory effects of emotion regulation strategies on the relationship between emotion beliefs and anxiety. Grade 7 and 8 adolescents in China ( n = 598) answered relevant questionnaires. Results demonstrated that individuals who believed that e…
The rapid and slow impacts of implicit reappraisal and distraction
Adolescents' loneliness and problematic smartphone use
Loneliness is an important risk factor for problematic smartphone use (PSU) among adolescents and the mechanisms underlying this correlation remain unclear. In this study, a moderated serial mediation model was tested by administering the Problematic Smartphone Use Scale for Chinese Adolescents, the Loneliness Scale (LS), the Upward Social Comparison Scale, the Fear of Missing Out Scale, and the Self‐Identity Scale to 466 Chinese adolescents. The…
The effectiveness of the DNA-V program on reducing anxiety among Chinese adolescents
Neural mechanisms for secondary suppression of emotional distractors
Distractor suppression allows us to remain on-task in the presence of distractions by filtering task-irrelevant information from ongoing cognitive processing and responding. Electrophysiological studies have revealed that this key feature of selective attention is a dynamic process that involves at least two distinct stages of processing. Two important aspects of these processing stages remain unclear: Whether the processing of emotional distract…
The role of temporal attention in the processing of facial expression
The efficacy of character strengths-based group intervention on reducing anxiety among adolescents and mediating role of self-efficacy
Cognitive bias modification of interpretation training for Chinese undergraduates with depressive symptoms
The interaction between reward and the task-irrelevant emotional context in memory
Reward improves task performance while the emotional contexts irrelevant to the task impair task performance. An interaction between reward and the task-irrelevant emotional context has been discovered by some studies using perceptual tasks. However, it is unclear that how memory performance would be affected by both variables. This study aimed to answer this question and explore the role of arousal induced by emotional stimuli, to which was seld…
The Effect of Color on Letter Discrimination Can Be Modulated by the Global/Local Processing and Attention Level
This study explored whether the color of letters could influence letter discrimination task performances and whether this effect of color could be modulated by processing level (global vs. local) and attention level of color (color-attended vs. color-unattended). We used the Navon letters in red, green, or white as stimuli at a relatively small (Experiment 1) or large visual angle (Experiments 2, 3, and 4). Each experiment included two tasks: col…
Emotional arousal influences remembrance of goal-relevant stimuli
Emotional stimuli rarely occur in isolation; instead, they often cluster with nearby neutral items in time and space. Research suggests that emotional arousal at encoding strengthens memory retention for temporally adjacent goal-relevant neutral stimuli. It is an open question whether these emotion-induced enhancement effects are the same for spatially adjacent stimuli. The present study examined how emotional arousal influenced memory of tempora…

A Study of the Integrated Cognitive Model of Depression for Adolescents and Its Gender Difference
