Nonstandard work schedules and parental mental health: The moderating influences of social support and gender in France
Despite the growing prevalence of nonstandard work schedules, their association with parental mental health remains underexplored, and the mechanisms underlying gender differences are poorly understood. Using data from the French Working Conditions Survey, this study examines the associations between specific types of nonstandard schedules (night, evening, morning, Saturday, and Sunday work) and major depressive episode (MDE), and test whether so…
Effect of egg consumption on early childhood development: Evidence from Un Oeuf study
Objective: Recent studies have shown that inclusion of eggs in young children’s diet can help meet nutritional requirements associated with cognitive development. This study aims to investigate the effect of egg consumption on early childhood development using Ages and Stages Questionnaire-3 in Burkina Faso. Design: The study presented here uses data collected during a follow-up of the Un Oeuf -a three-arm clustered randomised controlled trial (R…

Working Hours and Fertility: The Impact of Nonstandard Work Schedules on Childbearing in France
The relationship between nonstandard work schedules (NSWS) and fertility assumes prominence in developed countries that have witnessed a concerning decline in fertility and an increase in NSWS. Our study investigates the effect of different types of NSWS on women's fertility in France. We use the Conditions de Travail (CT) panel dataset covering 4178 women of childbearing age in 2013, 2016, and 2019. Using fixed effect models, we find that workin…
Poverty, wealth inequality and financial inclusion among castes in Hindu and Muslim communities in Uttar Pradesh, India
This study estimates poverty, wealth inequality and financial inclusion, for the first time, at the sub‐caste level in both Hindus and Muslims using a unique survey data collected from 7124 households in Uttar Pradesh, India, during 2014–2015. The results confirm the existing hypothesis that Brahmins, Thakurs and other Hindu general castes have higher wealth accumulation, lower poverty and lesser exclusion from formal financial services than Dali…
Productivity growth convergence across Indian states: A spatial dynamic panel analysis
The study re-examines convergence among Indian states by estimating their total factor productivity (TFP) for the period 1990/91–2018/19. The novelty of the study is the decomposition of TFP change into efficiency change and technological change using the Malmquist index in a spatial dependence framework to test convergence. Findings reveal that, on average, productivity increased at an aggregate level for the entire period on account of the impr…

Reproductive Burden and Its Impact on Female Labor Market Outcomes in India: Evidence from Longitudinal Analyses
We use nationally representative data from two waves of the Indian Human Development Survey to examine the role of inter-temporal changes in fertility behavior in influencing female labor market outcomes. Our multivariate regression estimates show that an increase in the number of children reduces labor force participation and earnings. We further investigated the impact of fertility changes on transitions from the labor market. The results show …
Investigating Regional Inequalities in India: Are Indian Districts Converging
The study examines the regional inequalities in India across 315 districts during 1999/2000–2010/2011. For examining convergence, parametric and non‐parametric tests are employed. Findings reveal that absolute and conditional convergences hold for the entire time period. Analysis of intra‐period convergence reveals an overall divergence during 1999–2005 and convergence during 2005–2011. Conditional variables included the number of bank branches, …
Prevalence of Anemia and Its Determinants Among Pregnant, Lactating, and Nonpregnant Nonlactating Women in India
Despite the existence of several policies and programs, anemia among pregnant and lactating women continues to be a serious concern for public health policy in India. The main objective of this study is to examine the prevalence and determinants of anemia among pregnant and lactating versus nonpregnant nonlactating (NP-NL) women for priority setting in health policies of the country. Data from the National Family Health Survey (NFHS3) conducted i…
