Distributional Vector Autoregression: Eliciting Macro and Financial Dependence
This paper extends the vector autoregression framework by introducing a flexible distributional regression that models multivariate time series without imposing restrictive parametric distribution assumptions. We develop a distributional impulse response function that captures the future effect of distributional disturbances within the system, providing a more detailed view of dynamic heterogeneity. We propose a straightforward estimation method …
Diachronic and disciplinary influences on the linguistic expression of causality in research articles
Causality is integral to academic writing, and the use of causality markers can vary over time and across disciplines. While previous research has focused mainly on how linking adverbials connect causal clauses, few studies have explored verbs and nouns as causality markers. This study examines how the use of causality markers in research articles has evolved over 40 years and between two disciplinary divisions (hard vs. soft and applied vs. pure…
Positive covariation or trade-off? A cross-disciplinary investigation of shell nouns and their congruent expressions in research articles
Despite considerable attention to their textual/semantic/cognitive functions, shell nouns have rarely been examined as linguistic resources of nominalization in relation to alternative, congruent expressions (e.g., reporting clauses and evaluative clauses) to map out how such linguistic resources are used in academic writing. This cross-disciplinary study examined the use of shell nouns in 240 research articles drawn from four disciplines (physic…

One Country, Two Perspectives: A Corpus-Assisted Critical Discourse Analysis of Newspaper Coverage of the Greater Bay Area Scheme in Hong Kong and Mainland China
Despite extensive research on media framing of Hong Kong affairs, there remains a significant gap in the comparative analysis of media representations between Chinese and Hong Kong news discourses amid Hong Kong’s increasing integration with mainland China. This study employs a corpus-assisted critical discourse analysis to examine the discursive construction around the Greater Bay Area (GBA) scheme in the news discourses of South China Morning P…

Market Access, Population Mobility and Labor Force Structure: Evidence From China’s High-Speed Railway
Population mobility is becoming a common phenomenon worldwide which can contribute to the development of individuals and societies. This paper offers that the launch of HSR would facilitate population mobility and spatial disparity. We also find that the HSR connection mainly affects migration of people under 14 and 15 to 64 years old, with no effect on the old over 65. This implies that labor-led family migration has become the main form of move…
