  • Acute and post-dosing effects of single-dose psilocybin for obsessive-compulsive disorder in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial: An interpretative phenomenological analysis

    Open Access•T H W Ching, B Stahnke et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Our findings highlight the moderate to strong influences of set and setting in the nature and trajectory of participants' psilocybin experiences. We also uncovered acute, synergistic visual/perceptual, emotional/psychological, and physiological/somatic effects that map onto those commonly reported in prior psilocybin trials for other closely related indications. However, these acute effects tended to occur at lower intensities (i.e., 'partial' ex…

  • Contradictions of Culture and Oppression: Portraits of Planters in Power and of Black West Indians in Eighteenth-Century Jamaican Art

    Open Access•M Burke•ARTICLE•New West Indian Guide / Nieuwe…•2024

Few early eighteenth-century Caribbean paintings survive. Among them is an important pair of previously unpublished Jamaican portraits of Chief Justice Thomas Fearon Jr., of Clarendon, and of his wife, Mary Peters Fearon, with their oldest son, Thomas Peters Fearon, from the 1730s. Colonial reflections of London art and society, although distorted by distance, occupied unique spaces where fantasies and realities collided. This article examines th…

  • The Fantasy of National Rice Barn and Reality of Farmers in Indramayu

Rhino Ariefiansyah, Rivaldo Herman et al.•ARTICLE•Antropologi Indonesia•2023

This paper centers on Indramayu's designation as the "national rice barn" (Daerah Lumbung Padi Nasional). Contrary to the believed narrative, our findings show that Indramayu’s agricultural dreams have been subsidized by other income generating activities, particularly from migrant remittance. We argue that the extensive environmental degradation and ecological vulnerabilities experienced in Indramayu have compelled small-scale farmers to pursue …

  • Understanding and assessing uncertainty of observational climate datasets for model evaluation using ensembles

Open Access•Marius Zumwald, Knsel et al.•ARTICLE•Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews…•2020

In climate science, observational gridded climate datasets that are based on in situ measurements serve as evidence for scientific claims and they are used to both calibrate and evaluate models. However, datasets only represent selected aspects of the real world, so when they are used for a specific purpose they can be a source of uncertainty. Here, we present a framework for understanding this uncertainty of observational datasets which distingu…

  • No Margin for Error: A Study of Two Women Balancing Motherhood and Ph.D. Studies

    Open Access•Robin S Grenier, Robin Grenier et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Report•2015•References: 10

This cogenerative ethnography explored the lived experiences of two graduate students balancing Ph.D. studies and motherhood through McClusky’s (1963) Theory of Margi n. Specifically, we asked ourselves: What impact does pregnancy have on personal and academic selves and how are multiple roles and responsibilities managed? Through an analysis of dialogues, artifacts, conceptual maps, and narratives, examples of internal and external lo ad reveale…

The relative hazard of death before achieving LTC compared to surviving without achieving LTC decreased for those with a history of opiate substitution therapy (OST) (HR 0.19, CI 0.10 to 0.34) and increased for HIV positive participants (HR 6.2, CI 3.6 to 10.6), those who started injecting after 1985 (HR 2.5, CI 1.3 to 4.8), those aged over 18 years at first injection (HR 2.2, CI 1.4 to 3.6), and those …
