Learning experience design of an mHealth self-management intervention for adolescents with type 1 diabetes
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a lifelong and chronic condition that can cause severely compromised health. The T1D treatment regimen is complex, and is a particular challenge for adolescents, who frequently experience a number of treatment adherence barriers (e.g., forgetfulness, planning and organizational challenges, stress). Diabetes Journey is a gamified mHealth program designed to improve T1D self-management through a specific focus on decreasing…
Burned-Out Classroom Climate, Intrinsic Motivation, and Academic Engagement
This study aimed to test the multilevel mediating effect of intrinsic motivation on the relationship between burned-out classroom climate and academic engagement and theoretically investigate the unresolved issues in the Job Demands-Resources model. Data were collected from 1015 high school students from 43 classes. Multilevel structural equation modeling indicated that a high level of burned-out classroom climate was related to a low level of ac…
Academic Hatred
This study aimed to examine the effects of interpersonal factors (i.e., teacher and peers) on academic hatred using the hierarchical linear model analysis. The data were collected from 1,015 senior high school students from 43 classrooms (57.3% female) in South Korea. The results showed significant effects of teachers' academic pressure, autonomy support, and peer support on academic hatred at both the individual and classroom levels. Interesting…
Academic Burnout Profiles and Motivation Styles Among Korean High School Students
This study aimed to identify academic burnout profiles and to examine how motivational styles distinguish burnout patterns using descriptive discriminant analysis. The data were collected from a total of 1,015 (95.8% response rate, 57.3% female) Korean high school students. The Distressed (entirely burned out) and Well‐Functioning (not burned out) groups were distinguished by amotivation, internal motivation, and identified regulation. The Strugg…
Development and Evaluation of a Classified and Tailored Community-Based Exercise Program According to the Mobility Level of People with Stroke Using the Knowledge to Action Framework
Attempts to classify the mobility levels of people with stroke (PWS) for a tailored exercise program in community settings have been few. We developed and evaluated a classified and tailored community-based (CTC) exercise program according to the mobility level of PWS. Forty-two PWS were classified into the Supine and Sitting, Sitting and Standing, and Standing and Gait groups, based on a newly developed classification model and participated in a…
Life Experiences with Using Community Care among People with Severe Physical Disabilities
This study identified the pathways chosen by people with severe physical disabilities (PWSPD) in South Korea and Japan in using community care throughout their life and compared their experiences while navigating these pathways from their perspective. A concurrent nested mixed-method design was adopted. Quantitative data analysis included pathway mapping of facilities and services used throughout their lives. For qualitative data, interpretative …
Profiles of Coping Strategies in Resilient Adolescents
To understand how resilient adolescents adapt to adverse situations, this study examined resilient adolescents and their coping strategies. Resilience is the phenomenon characterized by good outcomes despite serious threats to adaptation and/or development. The current study aimed to identify the coping strategy profiles that distinguish a resilient group from three other groups-struggling, competent, and vulnerable-specifically to differentiate …
Race of Athlete-Spokesperson and Implicit and Explicit Responses to Advertising
In this study we investigated racial vs. athletes from other countries, bias and differences in attitude of South Koreans toward advertisements featuring Korean vs. foreign athletes and White vs. Black athletes by implementing explicit and implicit measures. The results suggest that Koreans have: (a) implicit preferences for Korean athletes over foreign athletes, (b) implicit attitudes that are more favorable toward advertisements featuring Korea…
Resilience
This study investigated the relationship between psychological resilience and its relevant variables by using a meta‐analytic method. The results indicated that the largest effect on resilience was found to stem from the protective factors, a medium effect from risk factors, and the smallest effect from demographic factors.
