Functional Ego States in Treatment-Resistant Depression in Japan Evaluated Using Two Different Self-Rating Questionnaires
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD), defined as inadequate results after treatment with at least two antidepressants for 8 weeks, may be attributed to multiple factors, including the patient’s personality. In this research, we explored personality profiles based on egograms among 28 outpatients (22 men, 6 women) with TRD. Participants completed two self-questionnaires: the Tokyo University Egogram (TEG) and the Self Grow-up Egogram (SGE). Person…

The Senkaku Islands Dispute
This article introduced China’s four reasons of offensive to the Senkaku Islands: the first reason China’s natural resources demand; the second reason historical issues with Japan that have some relationship to Chinese people’s wartime memories; the third reason the Senkaku Islands Dispute as a tool of Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s internal power struggle; the fourth reason the Senkaku Islands Dispute as a tool of CCP for China’s national integ…
A Global Look at Time
In this article, we assess the structural equivalence of the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) across 26 samples from 24 countries ( N = 12,200). The ZTPI is proven to be a valid and reliable index of individual differences in time perspective across five temporal categories: Past Negative, Past Positive, Present Fatalistic, Present Hedonistic, and Future. We obtained evidence for invariance of 36 items (out of 56) and also the five-fact…
The Rise of China's Impact on Asean Conference Diplomacy
China claims the Spratly Islands and other three maritime features in the South China Sea. Four ASEAN countries, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei, dispute the sovereignty of the Spratly Islands with China. The rise of China in recent years is obvious and Chinese fishing boats, patrol vessels of the maritime security agencies, and PLA navy gunboats are deployed in the South China Sea. Chinese diplomats also label the South China Sea …
Effects of Audience Awareness on Procedural Text Writing
Effects of audience awareness were examined. Some participants acted as writers and the others acted as readers. Writers wrote a text describing a geometrical figure. Readers read the text and tried to draw the figure according to the description. In Exp. 1, audience awareness was manipulated among undergraduate students, 11 men and 34 women. Writers in the high audience-awareness condition spent more time planning and writing texts than writers …

Changes in the Temporal Organization of Autobiographical Memories
The temporal organization of autobiographical memories was examined through the event-cueing technique. Participants were presented a word indicating a life-time period and asked to recall autobiographical events sequentially. Temporal relations between recalled events were analyzed. Analysis suggested that recent autobiographical memories are organized temporally. As time passes, however, organization becomes ambiguous, and old autobiographical …
Effect of Recall Order on Long-Term Recency
The effect of recall order on long-term recency effects in the continuous-distractor paradigm was investigated. Each list contained a series of pairs, each of a word and a number. In a recall session, subjects were given the numbers as probes and recalled the words paired with the numbers. Long-term recency effects were largely reduced when subjects recalled words from the primacy portion prior to other words, as in the case of short-term recency…
Effect of Word Familiarity on Long-Term Recency
This experiment examined the effect of word familiarity on recency effects in two paradigms, the immediate recency effect in the immediate free-recall paradigm and the long-term recency effect in the continuous-distractor paradigm. Subjects studied word lists. In the immediate free-recall condition, words were presented continuously, and subjects were asked for free recall immediately after presentation of each list. In the continuous-distractor …
Growth of duckweed and nutrient removal in a paddy field irrigated with sewage effluent
The biomass of duckweed, water quality and rice production were surveyed in two paddy fields: one irrigated with secondary treated sewage effluent and the other with river water. Chemical analyses were also carried out on the sewage effluent and river water in order to evaluate the role of duckweed in a paddy field. It is concluded that duckweed growth in a rice paddy field irrigated with secondary treated sewage effluent plays a beneficial role …
