  • Las otras memorias de Gio Infante

    Open Access•Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•Revista de Estudios Sociales•2023•References: 9

Queer activist Gio Infante was one of the most lucid voices of the Peruvian social movements. At the age of 31, Infante’s early death stopped a political and intellectual becoming that deserves to be revisited. Cultivating Gio Infante’s memories is an effort to dispute the problematic desires for social normalization of some LGBTQ subjects and, more importantly, to dare to imagine queer horizons in which their lives are not socially and materiall…

  • Thinking Travesti Tears

    Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•Camera Obscura Feminism Culture…•2021•Cited by: 1

This article offers a reading of the Peruvian film Loxoro (dir. Claudia Llosa, Peru/Spain/Argentina/US, 2011), which stars the transgender activist Belissa Andía. “Loxoro” is the name of a language used by travesti communities to survive in Lima, Peru. The main plot of the film centers on the bond between a travesti mother and her missing travesti daughter. That is why in Loxoro, travesti tears abound. This article raises the following questions:…

  • Travesti Dreams Outside in the Ethnographic Machine

    Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•GLQ A Journal of Lesbian and Gay…•2019•Cited by: 7•References: 46

This article is a travesti assemblage. It is formed from three different but interconnected sections. The first is a life story of a young working-class Peruvian travesti, Sandra. My reading of this particular travesti narrative is an attempt to mark a queer existence or presence in and against worlds, institutions, and collectives that historically have attempted to erase such an existence. The second is an exploration of the encounter of an eth…

  • Por uma pedagogia queer da amizade

    Open Access•Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•Áskesis - Revista des discentes…•2015•Cited by: 6•References: 5

    Open Access•Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•Revista Periódicus•2015

  • For a Queer Pedagogy of Friendship

    Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•TSQ Transgender Studies Quarterly•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 9

This hybrid essay/narrative attempts to give an account of the survival of a “queer” subject, specifically a trans child living in Lima, Peru, in the 1950s and 1960s. My theoretical claims may be simple, but the survival of this trans child was anything but simple. The essay argues that in the survival of this child, friendship played a vital role

  • Towards a non-human ethnographic encounter

    Open Access•Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•Revista de Estudios Sociales•2014

In this review I pay special attention to the construction of ethnographic encounters in Mialet’s book. By ethnographic encounter, I mean how the knowing subject of this particular book is constructed, and of course how the knowing subject whom Stephen Hawking represents figures in it. However, to read it with this focus is to betray in some way the book’s main arguments, so I will first try to summarize some of Mialet’s main ideas. Mialet attemp…

  • Las políticas reparativas del movimiento LGBT peruano

    Open Access•Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•Revista Estudos Feministas•2014•Cited by: 7•References: 2

    Open Access•Giancarlo Cornejo•ARTICLE•Íconos - Revista de Ciencias…•2013•Cited by: 2
