  • A Sample of Professional and Managerial Women

    C Ray Wingrove, Kathleen F Slevin•ARTICLE•Journal of Women & Aging•1991

Prior to the mid-1970's there was little literature on the experiences of women in retirement. Although presently social scientists have begun research, there are still gaps in the literature, most notably regarding work and retirement experiences of women in senior professional and managerial positions. While the previously small numbers of these women may partly explain the absence of social science research on them, their more recently growing…

  • Cohort Analysis of Church Attendance, 1939-69

    C Ray Wingrove, Jon P Alston•ARTICLE•Social Forces•1974•Cited by: 1

An analysis of five different cohorts spanning a thirty-year period reveals little support for any particular model of church attendance as related to chronological aging. Although cohorts share trends in church attendance by sex and specific dates or time periods, each cohort seems to manifest its own distinct pattern as related to age itself. These findings suggest that even though church attendance varies by age, other factors such as specific…

  • Religiosity and Black Militancy

Jon P Alston, Charles W Peek et al.•ARTICLE•Journal for the Scientific Study…•1972•Cited by: 8

Data from a 1969 nationwide sample of black adults revealed a weaker association between religiosity and militant attitudes than Marx found in a 1964 sample. Further exploration uncovered an interesting reason for this finding. In 1964 blacks who were more religious were less militant within each of several age, sex, and denominational categories Marx examined, whereas in 1969 this was not the case. Among older black adults, males and Baptists, t…
