  • Invisible Offenders: Estimating Online Sex Customers

Dominique Roe-Sepowitz, Stephanie Bontrager Ryon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Trafficking•2016•Cited by: 2•References: 9

Research on prostitution demand has well documented why men buy sex from girls and women, but there is very little understanding of the scope and scale of the issue. The lack of stable and valid measures of how many people buy sex from prostituted persons severely hinders the development of prevention and intervention efforts. This study developed a probability estimate of the population of active customers of online sex in the United States in a…

This research review addresses the similarities and differences between domestic violence and sex trafficking victimization. While there is evidence that domestic violence and sex trafficking often co-occur, there is a large disparity in the understanding and interventions utilized by law enforcement as well as the services available for victims of each crime despite the considerable overlap of victimization. This article explores current researc…

  • Floodplain Agriculture in the Driftless Area: A Reply to Overstreet

    Open Access•James Gallagher, James P Gallagher et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1987•Cited by: 4•References: 3

Comments offered by Overstreet are based on a misunderstanding of the physiographic setting of the Sand Lake site and selective reading of the data. The Sand Lake ridged fields are situated in a floodplain in the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin, a setting very different from that of upland ridged fields in glaciated eastern Wisconsin. Overstreet attempts to refute interpretations that we have already revised significantly. Current interp…

  • Investigations into Oneota Ridged Field Agriculture on the Northern Margin of the Prairie Peninsula

    James Gallagher, James P Gallagher et al.•ARTICLE•Plains Anthropologist•1987•Cited by: 15•References: 2

Oneota ridged field agricultural patterns in the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin are reviewed in light of data provided by archaeological and geomorphological investigations at the Sand Lake Site. This research is summarized and a new functional interpretation of agricultural ridging is presented. A multi-functional explanation is put forth centering on tillage and control of micro-environmental factors related to a short growing season

  • Additional Cultural Resources Investigations at Selected Portions of the State-Road Coulee - Pammel Creek Flood Control Project at La Crosse, Wisconsin

Robert F Boszhardt, James Gallagher et al.•REPORT•1986•Cited by: 1

This report is a cultural resource investigation of three areas within the State Road Coulee-Pammel Creek flood control project area. The three areas include a downstream section of the mississippi River floodplain at the mouth of Pammel Creek, and two adjacent areas upstream at the mouth of State Road Coulee. In project area I, shovel testing was unfeasible because of the high water table. It is recommended at a qualified archaeologist monitor t…

  • Oneota Ridged Field Agriculture in Southwestern Wisconsin

    Open Access•James Gallagher, James P Gallagher et al.•ARTICLE•American Antiquity•1985•Cited by: 30•References: 6

A series of buried ridged agricultural fields has been discovered at the Sand Lake Site (47 Lc44) in La Crosse County, Wisconsin. Associated artifacts, features, and assayed carbon samples demonstrate that the fields were constructed by Oneota people in the fifteenth century A.D. Evidence suggests that water control was a major function of the ridges

James Gallagher, James P Gallagher•ARTICLE•Journal of Field Archaeology•1977•Cited by: 37

In the central part of Ethiopia there are a number of people who still make and use stone tools. This paper describes the pattern as observed from the study of twelve informants. It includes the quarrying of the raw materials (obsidian), the manufacture of the tools, the function of the tools (hide scraping), and the reworking of the tools and their eventual disposal. The social status and situation of the men who make and use the stone tools are…

James Gallagher, James E Gallagher et al.•ARTICLE•Social Forces•1974

This article examines how the alternatives of scapegoating or social-emotional leadership are determined in small discussion groups. The hypothesis asserts that the alternative “selected” by the group depends on whether the task leader supports the low-status member. An experiment designed to test this hypothesis indicated that scapegoating of the low-status member occurs when the task leader is somewhat hostile toward him. However, social-emotio…
