Pragmatic Conventions: A Frame for a Theory of Action and Interaction
In this article, I recommend pragmatic conventions, combining G. H. Mead's philosophy of meaning and ongoing reconstruction of the self with Lewis's model of conventions, as a frame for sociological theory. Convention can be understood as a formal model of negotiated order. The frame is evaluated in terms of its consistency with neurophysiological evidence.
