This study presents chronologically the national differences in eleven kinds of contribution to science and art. Other national groups have likewise risen and fallen repeatedly in the history of the world. This is a problem sufficiently large and important to warrant the establishment of a s…

This study reveals that certain types of present-day leaders-legislative, judicial, diplomatic, military, naval, religious, and educational-are significantly older than were their predecessors who held the same nominal positions. The recent leaders also exhibit less age variability today than formerly, both in the United States and in certain other countries. Thus, for each of the following groups of non-American leaders, the more recently born 5…

  • Occupational Intelligence in the Army: A Postscript

    Stuart M Stoke, Harvey C Lehman•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1930

The present study m…

  • Occupational Intelligence in the Army

    Harvey C Lehman, Stuart M Stoke•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1930

The differences between the mean intelligence test scores of the members of the various occupations have been emphasized so frequenthly that an erroneous belief has gradually developed, namely, that the majority of our bright citizens come from the professional and the large-scale business groups. Inspection of a neglected aspect of the army intelligence test data leads to the conclusion that the majority of A and B caliber men of the United Stat…

  • Some compensatory mechanisms of the negro

    Harvey C Lehman, Paul A Witty•ARTICLE•Journal of Abnormal & Social…•1928

The writers found that negro children tend to engage considerably more frequently than white children in church activities, playing school, writing poetry, social activities and boxing. It is probable that certain of the above play activities are compensatory in nature and that the racial differences in the extent to which they are participated in reflect differences in the need and possibility for obtaining substitute gratification. The feeling …

  • Sex differences in credulity

    Harvey C Lehman, Paul A Witty•ARTICLE•Journal of Abnormal & Social…•1928

This paper shows graphically that there is a significant sex difference in regard to credulity as expressed in the attitudes of the sexes towards fortune-telling activities. It suggests that this sex difference may be due in part to woman's relatively great emotionality or to her restrictions. These forces may cause her more frequently than man to fall back upon feeling for guidance. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)

Q. 70 and below); the other is composed of children who are often termed geniuses (I. Q. 140 and above). Facts regarding the racial origin…
