Beyond digital literacy: A structural model analysis of technology acceptance among Elderly persons
With the continued integration of digital technologies into daily life, Elderly persons in urban India are presented with opportunities and barriers to use digital technologies. Ecological Romanticism and the Critique of Civilization in Arun Joshi’s The Strange Case of Billy Biswas
This paper argues that Arun Joshi’s The Strange Case of Billy Biswas represents a reductive image of the otherwise complex and plural community of Indian tribals. The novel promises its reader an intellectual foray into the world of Indian tribals through the narrative of its protagonist Billy Biswas; but Biswas’s voyage as mapped by Joshi lacks serious, rigorous, analytical depth. The novel emulates colonial anthropology and popular culture of e…
Citizenship in Dalit and Indigenous Australian Literatures
Citizenship in Dalit and Indigenous Australian Literatures examines the difference in citizenship as experienced by the communities of Dalits in India and Aboriginals in Australia through an analysis of select literature by authors of these marginalised groups. Aligning the voices of two disparate communities, the author creates a transnational dialogue between the subaltern communities of the two countries, India and Australia, through the liter…
Reimagining Witches in Contemporary Hindi Cinema: A Study of “Bulbbul” and “Roohi”
Witch-hunting, an age-old practice in India, survives in a myriad of avatars in rural and urban areas. These avatars of witch-hunting have often been trapped in the binary of Indian modernity and Indian traditions, with the latter often embracing unchallenged superstitious beliefs. Herein we study the way the binary is handled in two recent telefilms, namely Bulbbul and Roohi, as they aim to revolutionise the portrayal of witches in Hindi cinema.…
Reconstructing Dalit Masculinities: A Study of Select Dalit Autobiographies
The study of masculinities in India has largely been confined to the analysis and understanding of the upper caste hegemonic masculinity and complicit masculinity, with respect to emphasised femininity. The issue of Dalit masculinities has been subsumed in the larger discourse of South Asian masculinity. The present study intends to address this gap by delving into the nuances of Dalit masculinities through a detailed analysis of Aravind Mālagatt…
Differential citizenship: Questioning the Dalit Claim to Equal Citizenship Through a Projection of Difference
Citizenship for dalits has been historically defined with relation to the demand for equality. However, this demand has witnessed a change in the last few decades where the agency of the dalits has manifested itself in the demand for a differential citizenship, where differentiation, and not homogeneity, has become the basis for the demand for equality. The study with the help of the textual analysis of Aravind Malagatti’s Government Brahmana and…
