Development and validation of a game-based assessment tool for abstraction skills in lower primary students
Developed a game-based assessment tool with a principled approach for evaluating abstraction skills in lower primary students. • Validated the tool with expert review, cognitive interview, and field tests. • Found significant gender differences in abstraction skills, offering insights into gender dynamics in early CT education. • Provided insights for tailored educational approaches by identifying diverse problem-solving strategies among students…
Understanding the determinants of international bleisure travel satisfaction
Recognizing the growing importance of international bleisure travel, this study examines travel activities that shape bleisure traveler satisfaction. Drawing on cross-cultural and activity-based perspectives, it uses foreign tourist survey data from the Korea Tourism Data Lab and applies SHAP analysis to compare key satisfaction contributors between bleisure and leisure travelers. The results reveal a clear gap between activity popularity and act…
The aging effect in deeper-level processing of emotion words
It remains uncertain, both theoretically and empirically, whether older adults undergo age-related decline in the capability to process emotion words. By employing a valence judgment task with two subtypes of appraisal emotion words, namely, sensory-quality appraisal emotion words and intrinsic-quality appraisal emotion words, matched with positive or negative valence, the present study undertook an investigation into this issue. It was found tha…
The digital economy and urban-rural income inequality in China
Income inequality is a bottleneck constraining China's sustainable development. The development of the digital economy generates new opportunities to narrow this gap and change the urban-rural dichotomy. Using provincial panel data in China from 2011 to 2020, this study examines the effect of digital economic development on urban–rural income inequality and investigates the moderating and threshold roles of new urbanization. High-dimensional fixe…

A hypergraph is a mathematical structure capable of representing complex relationships among multiple entities, with widespread applications. However, as the size of hypergraphs continues to grow, their analysis and processing become increasingly challenging. Therefore, how to effectively process large hypergraphs to enable efficient analysis with limited computational resources has become an important research problem. In this article, we propos…
Psychometric evaluation of the Chinese version of the Benefits-CCCSAT based on CTT and IRT
Background: The importance of culturally competent care in multicultural environments is increasingly recognized; however, effective tools to assess nursing students' cross-cultural competence remain limited. This study aimed to validate the BENEFITS-CCCSAT for Chinese nursing students. Methods: The original BENEFITS-CCCSAT was translated, back-translated, culturally adapted, and pre-tested using the Brislin model to form a Chinese version. A com…
Semantic radicals’ semantic attachment to their composed phonograms
In Chinese character processing studies, it is widely accepted that semantic radicals, whether character or non-character ones, can undergo semantic activation. However, there is a notable absence of studies dedicated to understanding the nature and operation of the semantic radicals' semantic information. To address this gap, the present study employed a masked semantic priming paradigm combined with a part-of-speech decision task and a lexical …

Association between social capital and utilization of essential public health services among elderly migrants
Social capital is associated with a higher utilization rate of EPHS among elderly migrants. It is necessary to encourage them to actively participate in social activities, strengthen public services and infrastructure construction in the area, and improve their sense of belonging and identity

Grandparenting and Well-Being of the Elderly in China
Grandparenting duties can affect the well-being of the elderly both positively and negatively. This paper disentangles the interactions between grandparenting, quality of life, and life satisfaction in China. Using a panel dataset of 3205 respondents in three waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2011, 2013, and 2015, we find that grandparents who look after grandchildren are less at risk of depression, receive m…
Fast Core Maintenance in Dynamic Graphs
This article studies the core maintenance problem in dynamic graphs. The core number is a fundamental index reflecting the cohesiveness of a graph, which is widely used in large-scale graph analytics. The core maintenance problem requires updating the core numbers of vertices after a set of edges and vertices are inserted into or deleted from the graph. Previous works focus on the scenario of single-edge updates and process the edges one by one w…

Batch Processing for Truss Maintenance in Large Dynamic Graphs
This article studies the batch processing of truss maintenance in large graphs. Trussness is a widely used index in graph analytics for cohesive subgraph mining. It is defined on edges to reflect the closeness of vertices connected by the edges. The trussness maintenance problem, i.e., updating trussness after edge insertions/deletions and avoiding recomputation, was proposed by Cohen (2008) with the assumption that real graphs are continuously e…
The effects of different types of vegetation restoration on wind erosion prevention
Improving wind erosion prevention in the key ecological zones of sand fixation are closely linked to human welfare in China and Northern Eurasia. In this research, we studied the sand transport rate (STT), soil water content (SWC), and retention rate of the wind erosion prevention services (RR) in five experimental zones in Yanchi Country, including bare sandy land (BL), and four restoration zones with different types of vegetation restoration ap…
