  • Linking urban park soundscape cognitive image to recreational visitors’ perceived restorativeness: The mediating role of emotional pleasure

Open Access•Chenyi Liao, Junlong Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Introduction Accelerating urbanization has intensified psychological stress and mental health problems among urban residents. As accessible natural spaces for leisure and recreation, urban parks have received increasing scholarly attention for the potential restorative effects of their soundscapes. Existing studies have mainly focused on the restorative benefits of visual landscapes or examined only the direct relationship between soundscapes and…

  • Institutional environment, academic attitude, and misconduct among medical students: A structural equation modeling and cluster analysis

Open Access•Peng Wang, Fan Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Medical Education•2026

BACKGROUND: Academic misconduct poses a severe threat to scientific integrity and medical ethics. While gender disparities in misconduct are widely documented, the underlying cognitive mechanisms explaining why males are more susceptible, and whether a supportive institutional environment can buffer the risks associated with academic pressure and negative attitudes, remain underexplored in the context of Chinese medical education. METHODS: A mult…

  • Assessment of heavy metal sources and health risks in soil-crop systems of fragmented farmland

Open Access•Lei Tong, Aoran Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Heavy metal contamination in agricultural ecosystems poses significant risks to human health. Metals accumulating in soil-crop systems can be absorbed and concentrated by crops. Chronic exposure through the consumption of contaminated crops may lead to severe health consequences. This study investigated eight common heavy metals (Cd, Ni, As, Cu, Hg, Pb, Cr, Zn) in the soil-crop system of Wanzhou District, Chongqing City, and performed a probabili…

Ruyu Tao, Pinyu Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation and Management of…•2025

Current discussions have noted the re-constructible nature of heritage authenticity in a post-western context. However, it is still questionable how to coordinate the reuse of heritage with collective memory and community sentiment in the post-disaster context. The study takes the Zhenhai Bridge in China, as a case study which is on the national heritage list but is also as a vernacular structure that was destroyed by floods in 2020 but then quic…

  • Nitrogen enrichment slows leaf litter decomposition rate in a mixed plantation of Cunninghamia lanceolata and Phoebe bournei: From the perspective of the leaf litter stoichiometric ratio

Open Access•Ying Zhang, Zhengyang Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2025

Leaf litter decomposition mediates critical ecosystem nutrient cycling processes and plays a pivotal role in regulating nutrient dynamics processes in subtropical forests. Nevertheless, the mechanisms by which mixed plantation leaf litter quality regulates decomposition under nitrogen (N) deposition remain poorly understood, particularly in subtropical forests experiencing chronic high nitrogen deposition. Herein, we conducted a one-year field li…

Open Access•Lian-Zhen Huang, Bin Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2025

Background: Oxidative stress contributes to hypertension and its complications. The oxidative balance score (OBS) could therefore provide insight into the relationship with mortality in hypertensive individuals. We aimed to investigate the association between OBS and all-cause mortality using data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2007-18. Methods: Our sample comprised 11 196 hypertensive participants. We calculated OBS based …

Open Access•Ruichen Li, Ji Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) in China was reported to be remarkably low. Clinicians often prioritize HPV-unrelated OPSCC cases without fully recognizing the clinical and public health significance of HPV-related ones. We conducted a 7-year retrospective study on OPSCCs in China’s highly developed eastern region, aiming to elucidate the clinical and demographic characteristics. The p…

Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine boosters have been recommended for all Americans 12 years of age and older. However, uptake remains suboptimal with only 17% of the United States (US) population boosted as of May 2023. This is a critical public health challenge for mitigating the ongoing effects of COVID-19 infection. COVID-19 booster uptake is not currently well understood, and few studies in the US have explored the vaccination process for booster upt…

One important issue in Bayesian estimation is the determination of an effective informative prior. In hierarchical Bayes models, the uncertainty of hyperparameters in a prior can be further modeled via their own priors, namely, hyper priors. This study introduces a framework to construct hyper priors for both the mean and the variance hyperparameters for estimating the treatment effect in a two-group randomized controlled trial. Assuming a random…
