  • Grief among Surviving Family Members of Homicide Victims: A Causal Approach

Open Access•M Virginia Sprang, John S McNeil et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•1993

A causal model is proposed to delineate predictors of self-reported grief among surviving family members of homicidal victims. The model specifies structural linkages among sociodemographic characteristics, psychological factors, and subjective ratings of grief. The proposed model is evaluated using data from a survey of members of “Victims of Violence” support groups. The results, for the most part, support the proposed model and indicate that c…

  • Correlates of willingness to consider organ donation among blacks

  • The Use of Social Services by Hispanic Elderly: A Comparison of Mexican American, Puerto Rican and Cuban Elderly

Richard A Starrett, Roosevelt Wright et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1989•Cited by: 6

The present study develops and tests a causal model of formal social service use by Mexican American, Puerto Rican and Cuban elderly. Path analytic procedures were used to evaluate the model on a national area probability sample of 1,805 noninstitutionalized elderly. The findings indicate that predictors of use, in general, differ by subgroups in terms of their relative importance, predictive power, complexity, and overall patterns. Implications …

  • Alienation Among Vietnamese Refugees in the United States: A Causal Approach

Thanh V Tran, Thanh Van Tran et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1987•Cited by: 2

The purpose of this study was to develop and test a causal model of alienation among a probability sample of Vietnamese refugees. Path analysis was used to test the causal model. The findings indicated that marital status, social support, social interaction anxiety, self-identity, and length of time in the United States directly predict feelings of alienation. The social support variable, however, was the most important predictor. An interesting …

  • Job Satisfaction among Black Female Managers: A Causal Approach

    Open Access•Roosevelt Wright, Shirley Wesley King et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•1987•Cited by: 4•References: 22

A structural equation model is proposed to delineate the various aspects of self-reported job satisfaction. The model specifies structural linkages among four factors including (1) background, (2) perceptions, (3) organizational, and (4) subjective ratings of overall job satisfaction. The proposed model is evaluated by using data from a random probability sample of blackfemale managers living in five southwestern states. The results support the p…

  • Social Support and Subjective Well-Being among Vietnamese Refugees

Thanh V Tran, Thanh Van Tran et al.•ARTICLE•Social Service Review•1986•Cited by: 3

This study attempts to identify the causal predictors of subjective well-being among Vietnamese refugees in the United States. Path analysis is used to test the causal influences of variables posited to affect well-being in the hypothesized causal model. Social support, social interaction anxiety, family income, and marital status were found to have significant direct effects on Vietnamese refugees' sense of well-being. Overall, the causal model …

  • Job Satisfaction in the Workplace: A Study of Black Females in Management Positions

Roosevelt Wright, Shirley Wesley King et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1985•Cited by: 2

This study examines the relative importance of background, perception, and organizational variables in explaining differences in job satisfaction levels of black female managers in human-service agencies. Correlational analysis revealed that nine out of twenty independent variables were significantly related to the level of job satisfaction. Multiple regression analysis revealed a six variable predictive model for job satisfaction. Implications o…

  • Health Care Utilization Among the Elderly: A Causal Analysis

Roosevelt Wright, William E Berg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Service Research•1980•Cited by: 4

The present study represents and attempt to develop a conceptual framework which provides a theoretical linkage between predisposing, enabling, and need for care factors and the utilization of physicians' services within an elderly population. Multiple regression and path analytic techniques are used to access the relative importance of these factors in determining health care utilization. The findings indicate, among other things, that the measu…
