Exploring the Role of Gene, Traumatic Experiences, and Religious Participation in Public Service Employment
Previous studies on sectoral choice have examined environmental and genetic factors in isolation, with little consideration of how gene–environment interactions influence public service employment selection. Notably, altruism‐related genes have been found to play a critical role in shaping prosocial behaviors. This study investigates how early traumatic experiences affect individuals' choice of public service employment through the mediating role…
The people-centered care and inpatients’ perceived experience in China
People-centered care is positively associated with inpatients' perceived experience, and enhancing health equity through PCC attributes can further improve this experience. Further reform and practice should focus on the amelioration of continuity of care, promotion of information sharing between medical staff and patients, access and effectiveness of care, and respect for patients, all contributing to health equity
Enhancing MAFLD Care
Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a prevalent condition associated with significant hepatic morbidity, yet evidence-based community interventions remain limited. This mixed-methods study first assessed self-management capacity and quality of life (QOL) among MAFLD patients (n = 218) in community settings, revealing suboptimal self-management (mean score 2.84 ± 0.73) and moderate QOL (3.23 ± 0.77), with education level and occupa…

The Effect of Medicaid Eligibility on Utilization of Services and Access to Care among Health Center Patients
The United States’ Affordable Care Act (ACA) aims to improve access to and quality of care for low-income patients. To do so, it expands Medicaid eligibility from individuals under 100% of the federal poverty level (FPL) to include those under 138% of the FPL. Based on the 2014 Health Center Patient Survey (a nationally representative survey sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) (n = 4,380)), this study examined the…
The Impact of Patient-Centered Care
Application of the Internet Platform in Monitoring Chinese Public Attention to the Outbreak of Covid-19
Objectives: The internet data is an essential tool for reflecting public attention to hot issues. This study aimed to use the Baidu Index (BDI) and Sina Micro Index (SMI) to confirm correlation between COVID-19 case data and Chinese online data (public attention). This could verify the effect of online data on early warning of public health events, which will enable us to respond in a more timely and effective manner. Methods: Spearman correlatio…
The Effect of Built Environment on Physical Health and Mental Health of Adults
At present, there is a lack of research examining the relationships between the built environment and health status from a social epidemiological perspective. With this in mind, the present study aimed to explore the construct validity of housing/neighborhood conditions and evaluate the associations between the built environment and self-rated health among Chinese residents. To conduct the analysis, data from 4906 participants were derived from t…
Between nature and nurture
Public administration scholars have had a long‐lasting interest in examining individual differences relevant to the attractiveness of public service employment. However, very few studies have explored the genetic underpinnings of these variations. This article builds upon recent behavioral genetics literature and explores whether there are genetic overlaps between psychological attributes and selection into public service employment. We construct…
Housing and Adult Health
Housing is one of the social determinants of health and the most basic survival needs of human beings. Many studies have preliminarily confirmed that housing factors can influence residents' health. The aims of this study were: to evaluate the housing factors associated with self-rated health and mental health among Chinese residents; to explore the regional heterogeneity of the impact of housing on health; and to assess the effects of housing on…
The convergence of racial and income disparities in health insurance coverage in the United States
Results of the study could assist policymakers in targeting limited resources on subpopulations likely most in need of assistance for insurance coverage. Policymakers should target insurance coverage for the most vulnerable subpopulation, i.e., those who have low income and poor health as well as are racial/ethnic minorities
Impact of Patient-Centered Care
Longitudinal study of the earliest pilot of tiered healthcare system reforms in China
Cancer screening among racial/ethnic groups in health centers

Health care utilization and affordability among older people following China’s 2009 health reform -- evidence from CHARLS pilot study
Although the OOP burden and PS portion had been reduced following the health reform, these impacts were still limited. Better results can be observed in outpatient care than in inpatient care, which provide a strong foundation for the next stage of reform
Urban-rural disparities in health care utilization among Chinese adults from 1993 to 2011
BACKGROUND: Despite economic growth and improved health outcomes over the past few decades, China still experiences striking urban-rural health inequalities. Urban and rural residents distinguished by the hukou system may experience profound disparities because of institutional effect. The aim of this study is to estimate trends in urban-rural disparities in self-care, outpatient care, and inpatient care utilization from a perspective of the huko…
Modifiable health risk factors, related counselling, and treatment among patients in health centres
Chronic disease burden and its related health risk factors are especially concentrated among the poor. Community health centres reach the nation's most vulnerable population. This study explored the prevalence, racial/ethnic, and gender disparities of five modifiable health risk factors and the receipt of related counselling and treatment among patients in U.S. federally qualified health centres. The 2014 Health Center Patient Survey was used for…
