Prevalences and risk factors of overweight and obesity among kindergarten children in Shenzhen, China: A cross-sectional study
Aim: Obesity in children have become major public health issues worldwide. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children in Longgang District, Shenzhen, China, in the context of COVID-19 and analyze associated risk factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted through online survey from May to July 2021. World Health Organization child growth standards and the health industry standards of the Peopl…
Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction reduces influenza A virus nucleoprotein levels in association with modulation of lactate–HMGB1 lactylation and autophagosome accumulation
MXSG reducing NP levels is associated with modulation of expression levels of glycolytic enzymes and reduced lactate production, and was accompanied by decreases in HMGB1 lactylation with expression and HMGB1-associated autophagosome accumulation providing a potential metabolic basis for MXSG-associated regulation of autophagy-related processes. These findings suggest a possible association between metabolic-autophagy signaling and MXSG-associate…
Association Between Smartphone Use and Depressive Symptoms Among Chinese Older Adults
This study was performed to clarify the relationship between smartphone usage and depression risk among older adults. We also examined smartphone use variations, population heterogeneity, and the mechanisms behind smartphone-related depression symptoms. A total of 10,997 older adults (mean age = 84.31 years) from a national cohort (Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity and Happy Family Study) in China were included. Smartphone use was measured b…
Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction alleviates lipopolysaccharide-induced pneumonia by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation via AMPK/mTOR/ULK1-mediated autophagy
MXSG activates the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 pathway, promoting autophagy and inhibiting excessive NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by LPS. This subsequently reduces inflammatory cytokine (IL-1β, IL-18) levels, thereby mitigating LPS-triggered lung inflammation. The primary active compounds of MXSG that promote autophagy are amygdalin, licoricesaponin G2, and daidzein. These findings offer fresh perspectives on how MXSG mitigates pneumonia, highlightin…
Assessing the role of long-term care insurance in shaping living arrangements of older adults: Evidence from China
The establishment of long-term care insurance (LTCI) has become one of the key measures adopted by countries worldwide to address growing care needs associated with population aging. While existing studies focus on LTCI’s impact on medical expenditure and healthcare utilization, its effects on living arrangements of older adults, a core component of long-term care, remain underexplored in China. Living arrangements reflect both the well-being of …
Socio-demographic factors shape mortality risk linked to compound drought-heatwave events under climate change in China
Parental Expectation and Mobile Phone Addiction in Adolescents from Chinese Low-Income Families: The Mediating Effects of Self-Esteem and Social Anxiety
The parental expectation in adolescents' education is an essential factor of adolescents' social and emotional development. However, little is known about how it is related to adolescents' mobile phone addiction, especially for adolescents from low-income families. To address this issue, this study investigated the relationship between parental expectation and mobile phone addiction, and its underlying mechanisms in adolescents from low-income fa…
Strengthening local governance in health financing in China: A text-mining analysis of policy changes between 2009 and 2020
In the last two decades, developing countries have increasingly engaged in improving the governance of their health systems and promoting policy design to strengthen their health governance capacity. Although many well-designed national policy strategies have been promulgated, obstacles to policy implementation and compliance among localities may undermine these efforts, particularly in decentralized health systems. Studies on health governance h…
Long-term care insurance and the well-being of older adults and their families: Evidence from China
Study on the mechanisms of “Xiaoerhuashi Pill, XP” in intervening the health status of high-calorie diet animals
Mobile phone addiction and school performance among Chinese adolescents from low-income families: A moderated mediation model
New trends in population aging and challenges for China’s sustainable development
Population aging has increasingly become one of the most urgent problems in China. This paper reveals new trends in population aging in China and possible impacts on social and economic development in the future. We find that China will encounter the largest wave of population aging in the next 30 years, characterized by more individuals among the oldest-olds, more empty-nest elderly, and greater elderly dependency. These trends will impose chall…
