On March 11, 2011, Japan suffered a 9.1-magnitude earthquake that spawned a devastating tsunami. In a matter of moments, a vast region of coastal towns and agricultural communities vanished under a black tide, leaving almost twenty thousand confirmed dead and near total devastation of the natural and built environment.
