OBJECTIVES: In April 1992, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended that healthy infants be positioned for sleep on their side or back to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). The authors hypothesized three different forms of the intervention to examine the impact of the recommendation according to theory such as technology diffusion.
