  • Contextual behavioral supervision

Open Access•India Watson, Linda Nicholson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contextual Behavioral…•2026

Psychological therapies based on contextual behavioral (CB) principles have been a focus of training and dissemination over the last 25 years. It is recognized that practitioners wanting to practice these therapies in safe and effective ways should engage in clinical supervision. However, clinical supervision, while regarded as essential, is an under-researched, area of psychological practice in general, and in contextual behavioral science. This…

    Open Access•Linda J Nicholson, Linda Nicholson•BOOK•Identity Before Identity Politics•2008

In the late 1960s identity politics emerged on the political landscape and challenged prevailing ideas about social justice. These politics brought forth a new attention to social identity, an attention that continues to divide people today. While previous studies have focused on the political movements of this period, they have neglected the conceptual prehistory of this political turn. Linda Nicholson's engaging book situates this critical mome…

  • A Response to My “Critics”

    Open Access•Linda Nicholson•ARTICLE•Hypatia•2001•References: 1

This essay is a response to comments made by Shane Fhelan, Cheshire Calhoun, and Naomi Scheman on my book The Play of Reason: From the Modern to the Postmodern (1999). I reiterate my belief that we best approach the issue of consensus and dissension in second’ Order justifications of social and political claims not philosophically but sociologically, politically, historically. I suggest similar approaches for dealing with the question of meaning.…

These essays provide a compelling view of many of the major trends in social theory over the past fifteen years—trends that Linda Nicholson herself helped to shape. The Play of Reason examines the legacies of modernity in contemporary political, social, and feminist th…

  • Social Postmodernism

    Open Access•Linda J Nicholson, Linda Nicholson et al.•BOOK•Social Postmodernism•1995

Social Postmodernism defends a postmodern perspective anchored in the politics of the new social movements. The volume preserves the focus on the politics of the body, race, gender, and sexuality as elaborated in postmodern approaches. But these essays push postmodern analysis in a particular direction: toward a social postmodernism which integrates the micro-social concerns of the new social movements with an institutional and cultural analysis …

  • Social criticism without philosophy

    Open Access•Nancy Fraser, Linda Nicholson•CHAPTER•Postmodern Turn•1994

Feminism and postmodernism have emerged as two of the most important political-cultural currents of the last decade. So far, however, they have kept an uneasy distance from one another. Indeed, so great has been their mutual wariness that there have been remarkably few extended discussions of the relations between them (exceptions are: Flax, 1986; Harding, 1986a, 1986b; Haraway, 1983; Jardine, 1985; Lyotard, 1978; Owens, 1983).
