  • Playing the Field

    Open Access•Kathleen J Lehman, Kaitlyn N Stormes et al.•ARTICLE•Innovative Higher Education•2026

Decades of research suggests that internship participation in college supports students’ career development and transition into post-college careers. Given the gender and racial/ethnic equity gaps in the STEM workforce, especially in the subfield of computing and technology, increasing the number of students who participate in computing-related internships during college may be one way to promote broader participation in these fields. Yet, few st…

  • Making the Leap

    Open Access•Kathleen J Lehman, Sarayu Sundar et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2025

Prompted by participation gaps in the tech industry, this study explores the relationship between recent college graduates’ college experiences and their perceptions of their tech work environments. • Sense of Belonging in Computing

    Open Access•Linda J Sax, Jennifer M Blaney et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2018•Cited by: 8•References: 38

This study examines an aspect of gender and racial/ethnic gaps in undergraduate computing by focusing on sense of belonging among women and underrepresented minority (URM) introductory computing students. We examine change in sense of belonging during the introductory course as well as the predictors of belonging, with attention to conditional effects by gender and URM status. Results show that sense of belonging outcomes are a product of both in…
