Why function still matters: A heuristic for pluralism and ambivalence in sociological explanation
Functional analysis has often been criticized for its associations with teleology, conservatism and adaptationist reasoning. We argue that these limitations stem less from functional reasoning itself than from the assumptions historically attached to it. Building on Robert K.
