Control of losses in freshly‐imported laboratory primates during the acclimatization period
Observation of large numbers of freshly‐trapped rhesus and crab‐eating macaques transported by air from Asia to an Australian laboratory has shown that severe losses may occur during the first few weeks following importation and that it is up to 12 weeks before the animals become properly acclimatized to the new environment. The advent of the fast Fourier transform method has greatly extended our ability to implement Fourier methods on digital computers. A description of the alogorithm and its programming is given here and followed by a theorem relating its operands, the finite sample sequences, to the continuous functions they often are intended to approximate. An analysis of the error due to discrete sampling over finite ranges is given in terms of aliasing. Proced…
