  • Realism about Newtonian Gravity

Marcus Egg, Matthias Egg•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•2026•References: 25

  • Expanding Our Grasp: Causal Knowledge and the Problem of Unconceived Alternatives

Marcus Egg, Matthias Egg•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•2016•Cited by: 10•References: 35

I argue that scientific realism, insofar as it is only committed to those scientific posits of which we have causal knowledge, is immune to Kyle Stanford’s argument from unconceived alternatives. This causal strategy (previously introduced, but not worked out in detail, by Anjan Chakravartty) is shown not to repeat the shortcomings of previous realist responses to Stanford’s argument. Furthermore, I show that the notion of causal knowledge underl…

  • Primitive ontology and quantum state in the GRW matter density theory

Open Access•Marcus Egg, Matthias Egg et al.•ARTICLE•Synthese•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 40

  • Scientific Realism in Particle Physics: A Causal Approach

Marcus Egg, Matthias Egg•BOOK•Scientific Realism in Particle…•2014

Particle physics studies highly complex processes which cannot be directly observed. Scientific realism claims that we are nevertheless warranted in believing that these processes really occur and that the objects involved in them really exist. This book defends a version of scientific realism, called causal realism, in the context of particle physics. The first part of the book introduces the central theses and arguments in the recent philosophi…
