    Open Access•Javier Jordán Enamorado, Javier Jordán•ARTICLE•Journal of Strategic Security•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 11

Drawing on existing literature, this research offers a theoretical delineation of the gray zone conflict, that is, conflict below the threshold of armed conflict. It begins by identifying the characteristic features attributed to the gray zone to propose a definition of the concept. It then situates gray zone conflict within the framework of the International Relations theory of Realism before setting out the main lines of strategic action used. …

  • The Last Stand of Al Andalus Lessons on the Changing Nature of War from an Early Modern Islamic Insurgency

Javier Jordán Enamorado, Javier Jordán•ARTICLE•Studies in Conflict and Terrorism•2020

The present article pursues a two-fold purpose. The first is to identify elements of continuity throughout history in internal armed conflicts where state structures are still in the process of being formed or, if already consolidated, where they have suffered serious deterioration. The second is to present and analyze a case study that has received scant attention in scientific literature on insurgencies, namely, the War of the Alpujarras, which…

Javier Jordán Enamorado, Javier Jordán•ARTICLE•Journal of Strategic Studies•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 17

This article examines the effects the drone strike campaign in Pakistan is having on Al Qaeda Central. To that end, it constructs a theoretical model to explain how the campaign is affecting Al Qaeda’s capacity to carry out terrorist attacks in the United States and Western Europe. Although the results of one single empirical case cannot be generalised, they nonetheless constitute a preliminary element for the construction of a broader theoretica…

  • Radicalization in Prisons? Field Research in 25 Spanish Prisons

Humberto M Trujillo, Javier Jordán Enamorado et al.•ARTICLE•Terrorism and Political Violence•2009•Cited by: 4

This article has two principal objectives: (1) to study the behavioral dimensions of Muslim prisoners which predict their Islamist radicalism and (2) to study whether the behavior manifested by them is higher in prisons with a greater concentration of Muslims and a higher presence of prisoners convicted for Islamist terrorism than in prisons with fewer Muslims and no convicted Islamist terrorists. We conclude that some Spanish prisons may provide…

  • Spain and Islamist Terrorism

Javier Jordán Enamorado, Javier Jordán et al.•ARTICLE•Mediterranean Politics•2006•Cited by: 4•References: 1

The presence of jihadist networks in Spain on a permanent basis goes back to the early 1990s. From early on, the Spanish police and intelligence agencies monitored the activities of these groups, although the priority during this period in terms of focus and resources was the struggle against the terrorism of ETA. Following the attacks of 11 March 2004, Spain has put in place numerous measures to avoid a repeat of a similar tragedy. This article …

  • Al-Qaeda and Western Islam1

Javier Jordán Enamorado, Javier Jordán et al.•ARTICLE•Terrorism and Political Violence•2004•Cited by: 4

The terrorism of Al-Qaeda could gravely endanger social co-existence in western countries with large Islamic communities. Al-Qaeda uses the presence of Muslims in Europe and the United States in order to hide itself, recruit new members and obtain aid. Even though the majority of the Muslims who live in the West reject terrorism, there exists proof that Al-Qaeda has managed to locate itself in minority sectors of Europe and America. The social al…
