Can Moral Framing Reduce Climate Change Polarization? Textual and Experimental Evidence from Norway
Is elite climate rhetoric morally framed to resonate mainly with liberal, universalist audiences? And can more inclusive framing, matching the particularist moral orientation of conservatives, reduce polarization? Drawing on moral foundations theory and combining computational text analysis with a survey experiment, we examined these questions using Norwegian data. In Study 1, analyzing 1,039 opinion pieces from major newspapers (2018–2022) using…
What Drives Antisemitic Hostility in the Twenty-First Century? A Comparative Case Study of Germany, Sweden, and Russia (1990–2020)
Public concern about antisemitism has increased globally in the twenty-first century, sparking renewed interest from social scientists. However, the crucial question of why trajectories of antisemitic hostility differ between countries remains unanswered due to a lack of studies designed to track temporal and cross-national variation. Addressing this gap, I evaluate the explanatory power of two main lines of argument that divide the literature: g…
Facing antisemitism in Europe
Rising antisemitism in the twenty-first century has alarmed Jewish communities and the general public, but antisemitic hate crime victimization remains understudied outside the US context. This study primarily relies on a comprehensive survey of 16,400 Jews across twelve European countries, supplemented with data from additional sources, to assess individual and country-level predictors of Jews’ experiences and fears of antisemitic harassment and…

Norge». Boka inneholder tolv kapitler fordelt på to seksjoner. Den første seksjonen («The Northern Impact») inneholder åtte…
Glory to Breivik
This article documents Anders Behring Breivik's reception on the Russian far Right, with a comparative view to Western Europe. On July 22, 2011, Breivik carried out two terrorist attacks in Norway, killing 77 people. Based on a variety of open sources, the article finds that Breivik has received much more open support in Russia than in Western Europe. I suggest there are three main reasons why Russia stands out. First, a weaker social stigma atta…
Prayers and Patriotism in Nazi-Occupied Russia
This article explores the social, cultural and political dimensions of religious revival in German-occupied northwest Russia during World War Two. Leading the revival was the Pskov Orthodox Mission, established to provide religious and relief services for the population. The priests saw themselves as Russian patriots, labouring in the interest of the Russian nation, but in opposition to the Bolshevik regime. While the clergy's appeals to the fait…
